Dear Senator Graham,

I read with great amusement several news articles regarding your promise to have a rotating First Lady in the White House. One of the articles mentioned that you had several friends that could fill that position, and even your sister Darline as a possible first choice.

But I’ve got a recommendation for you that could open some doors and help you build a winning coalition for both the primary and the general election: My Great Grandma Ruth!

I know, I know. It sounds ridiculous, but hear me out for why Grandma Great, as we lovingly call her, would make a great First Lady.

First of all, as the Catholic daughter of Italian immigrants raised in Brooklyn, she cuts through all of the baloney. She’s direct and speaks the truth even when it may be unpopular. You could put her up against George Stephanopoulus, Katie Couric, Chris Matthews, Rachel Maddow, and Candy Crowley or any other liberals, and she’d come out on top every time.

She’d be supportive of your efforts to cut down on waste, fraud, and abuse in the federal government. She could even lead a commission to find all of it. No one can pull a fast one on Grandma Great. She catches everything.

Actually, Grandma Great would be very supportive of almost all of your positions, especially protecting the unborn from abortion at the 20th week (when they can feel pain) and protecting students, parents, and teachers from federal overreach when it comes to the Common Core and education policy.

She’d also be supportive of your efforts to protect the dignity of immigrants. Just make sure we secure those borders! I imagine you’d both agree with much of this 5-point immigration reform plan that American Principles in Action released in mid-May.

Great Grandma Ruth with the Schilling family.

As someone who lived through the Great Depression she can speak to policies that help the poor and working Americans.

She knows that working Americans are hurt by poor monetary policy and a weak dollar. She’d like to see you start an effort to fix and address the Federal Reserve, and maybe even get us back on the Gold Standard, the monetary system that gave us the industrial revolution, consistent and solid economic growth, and low and stable interest rates. As she has told me before, “The dollar used to be as good as gold.”

Still need more reasons? She served in World War II at Freeman Field in Ohio. And with two grandsons in the Army, she’d add even more credibility to your efforts to take care of our military men and women at home and abroad.

Need an advocate for defense spending? Grandma Great worked at the Rock Island Arsenal, for over 20 years, so she knows first hand how important investing in our national defense is.

Need more reasons? With 44 grandchildren and great grandchildren, you’d have a serious volunteer force for your campaign.

Anyway, I know that you’re busy right now, but just let me know if you need to get a hold of Grandma Great. With a coalition of Pro-lifers, Immigrants, Parents and Teachers, Veterans, Seniors, and Catholics, I think she’d make the best political choice for First Lady.
