Kasich Says He Will Sign Ban on Down Syndrome Abortion

Ohio Governor John Kasich has finally taken a position on a pro-life bill in the Ohio legislature, saying that he would be happy to sign it into law:

“I would sign it, yes,” Kasich said. “Look, I’m a governor. I’m a CEO. I have to have a hand steady on the wheel. But in this case, I’m more than glad to say that of course I would sign that.”

Kasich’s support for the bill, which would ban abortions performed because the child has Down Syndrome, is a welcome surprise. Kasich had previously avoided commenting on the bill.  His reason?  Apparently he didn’t want to comment on a bill while the legislature was in session.

I sympathize with Kasich’s desire not to meddle in the affairs of the legislature, but knowing that over 60 percent of Down Syndrome children are aborted, I’m glad he’s thrown his support behind this bill.
