An ABC/WaPo national poll released yesterday shows that if the race narrowed to just Ted Cruz and Donald Trump, Cruz trounces Trump 54 percent to 41 percent.

According to last night’s exit polls, if Marco Rubio and John Kasich had left a race they cannot win, Michigan voters would have gone for Cruz over Trump by a narrow margin, with both receiving about 41 percent.

Trump would still have won Mississippi, but only narrowly, 50 percent to 44 percent (indicating, by the way, that almost all of the other candidates’ support would go to Cruz if they drop out.)

If Rubio and Kasich had dropped out, Cruz would have won at least three out of the four states yesterday and a majority of delegates, cementing Saturday’s story of a Trump slump.

These two men and their supporters have a lot of ‘splaining to do if Trump is the nominee.
