Russia is decisively outplaying the Joe Biden regime in Africa, senior U.S. officials are admitting, as Niger becomes the latest country to push out American troops in favor of Russian mercenaries. Having poured over a billion dollars into Niger, well over a thousand U.S. troops will now have to be withdrawn from the Sahel region state over the coming months, and critical new drone bases will be abandoned.
A senior U.S. military official with experience in Niger described the event as “a devastating blow, both for our regional counterterrorism efforts and to overall peace in the region going forward.” Russian military advisers and materiel are already arriving in the country.
Chad, the Central African Republic, Mali, and Libya, have already turned to Russia to enhance their security, POLITICO reports, with a senior U.S. official telling the news outlet: “Where the Russians have a real advantage over the United States is they have weapons, and they sell weapons, including helicopters.”
It is an embarrassing state of affairs for Biden and his NATO allies — France, the former colonial power, has already had its forces ejected from Niger — at a time when a diplomatic and sanctions blitz against Russia following the onset of the Ukraine war was supposed to curb its influence on the world stage. Instead, the U.S. is being further pushed back in a region where neighboring Mali and Burkina Faso had already undergone military coups, brought in Russian mercenaries, and realigned with Moscow.
Cameron Hudson, a former intelligence officer for Africa at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), described how the U.S. had tried to fill the vacuum in “all of these countries” when French influence waned following decolonization.
“All of that is clearly not working. We are now out. Russia is now in,” he lamented.

Tony Bobulinski, a former associate of Hunter Biden, filed a $20 million defamation lawsuit against Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) yesterday. Bobulinski, the witness for the Republican impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden, has filed several lawsuits against Democrats over their commentary about him. According to Bobulinski, Rep. Raskin has refused to comply with multiple requests to retract and delete allegedly defamatory remarks, necessitating the lawsuit.
Raskin, the ranking member of the House Oversight Committee, often criticizes the Republican impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden‘s son, Hunter. The Democrat lawmaker has repeatedly questioned Bobulinksi’s credibility. The lawsuit alleges Raskin published “false statements” online to undermine Bobulinski after his testimony before the impeachment inquiry.
The legal filing also accuses Raskin, in an MSNBC interview, of insinuating that Bobulinski engaged in spying and other criminal activity, thus damaging his integrity. In the same interview, Raskin ridiculed the GOP impeachment witnesses, accusing Bobulinski of maintaining ties to sanctioned Russia-based energy magnate Viktor Vekselberg. Several corporate news outlets subsequently picked up these accusations, further damaging the witness’s reputation.
Bobulinski’s lawsuit alleges that Raskin defamed the witness by suggesting he may have lied to Congress to gain favor with former President Donald Trump. The filing states that he possesses no affiliation with Trump’s presidential campaign. These comments by Raskin, the suit claims, have contributed to a “defamatory social media blitz.”
In addition to Raskin, Bobulinski has also filed lawsuits against former Trump aide-turned-Democrat ally Cassidy Hutchinson and Fox News‘s Democrat commentator Jessica Tarlov.

Some of Ron DeSantis‘s strongest backers are now indicating they want jobs in the next Trump administration should Trump win the November election. Chief among them are Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds and activist Christopher Rufo. A recent article in the Daily Caller on the importance of the role of Education Secretary reveals that both Reynolds and Rufo covet the position.
According to the Caller, an unnamed conservative education group lists Reynolds on its preferred shortlist for the role. “From her perspective, it’s something that she is interested in,” a spokesman for Reynolds said.
Rufo also appears keen on the role. “I think when the country calls you to service, you have to listen,” said Rufo. “And when the president is looking to assemble a team to advance these ideas, these principles and these policies, he’s going to need the best people he can get. And I think something like that would be an offer that would be very difficult, if not impossible to refuse,” he continued. “I think it’s very important that we need an education secretary who is youthful,” added Rufo, who is just 39 years old.
Reynolds enthusiastically endorsed Ron DeSantis for president, telling a crowd of DeSanits supporters in December 2023 that “(Trump) thought he was entitled to my endorsement. Nobody is entitled to anything. You have to step up, you have to earn it, you have to make your case.”
It is unlikely that Reynolds — or Rufo, whom POLITICO described as Desantis’s culture warrior — will be able to make their cases to Trump successfully. In March of last year, the Trump campaign warned DeSantis supporters that they would be ineligible for roles in either his campaign or a future administration.

Nina Jankowicz, the former and brief executive director of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)’s Disinformation Governance Board, has a new non-profit group called the American Sunlight Project (ASP). The group aims to combat what it believes is a concerted campaign by conservatives to target and discredit disinformation researchers like Jankowicz. The former DHS employee was the subject of blistering criticism in 2022 over her embrace of pro-Biden government propaganda narratives on social media.
The new organization, led by Jankowicz and Carlos Álvarez-Aranyos, has hit the ground running — already accusing several House Republican committee chairmen of using their constitutional subpoena power to silence think tanks and disinformation researchers. “These tactics echo the dark days of McCarthyism, but with a frightening 21st-century twist,” Jaknowicz and Álvarez-Aranyos wrote in a letter published yesterday, leveling a series of hyperbolic accusations against House Republican leaders.
Despite her concerns about ongoing disinformation operations, Jankowicz participated in at least two such initiatives herself in 2020.
The former DHS employee publicly praised the discredited Steele dossier author, Christopher Steele, on social media. After an appearance by the British spy on the Infotagion podcast, Jankowicz posted to X (formerly Twitter), “Listened to this last night — Chris Steele (yes THAT Chris Steele) provides some great historical context about the evolution of disinfo. Worth a listen.” The alleged disinformation expert also dismissed the Hunter Biden laptop — confirmed by the Department of Justice and FBI as authentic — as “a Russian influence op.”
The American Sunlight Project–whose acronym ASP recalls the name of several venomous snake species found in the Nile region of Africa and the European vipera aspis — has a board comprised of several notable figures — including NeverTrumper Katie Harbath, a former Facebook executive and Republican operative; Ineke Mushovic, who leads a think tank that tracks “threats to democracy” and gay, lesbian, transgender movements; and Benjamin Wittes, the resident Deep State apologist at the Brookings Institute, which was primarily backed by the government of Qatar until 2017.
