The Secret to Repealing Obamacare? Make Politicians Use It, Too.

July 4th has come and gone, but Obamacare is still the law of the land.

Despite Senate Republicans’ assurance that health care would be put up for a vote before the fireworks, American families are unable celebrate their independence from Obamacare’s skyrocketing premiums and dwindling insurance options.

But while the media is relishing in the Republican Congress’s inability to repeal a law they’ve been campaigning against for years, the fact is, breaking the health care gridlock might not be so complicated.

It might even be easy.

The secret to repealing Obamacare is likely hiding in plain sight — President Trump just needs to end Congress’ illegal Obamacare exemption and force Members and their staff to live under the laws’ punishing regulations like the rest of us.

After passing the “Affordable Care Act,” Congress pleaded with President Obama to exempt lawmakers and their staff from Obamacare — because its plans aren’t so “affordable”.

In response, Obama issued an OPM rule forcing taxpayers to continue paying for health insurance for Members and staff, and Congress filed documents claiming that the House and Senate were a “small business” with under 50 employees and therefore not subject to Obamacare’s regulations.

It’s no wonder Congress hasn’t repealed Obamacare yet — they don’t have to deal with soaring insurance costs like the rest of us.

With premiums for benchmark Obamacare plans set to rise by 18 percent next year, and with 41 percent of U.S. counties set to offer only one Obamacare insurance option, repealing Congress’ exemption from Obamacare is the spark that is needed to force the Senate to act on repeal.

Ending the exemption from is easy. As Jenny Beth Martin of Tea Party Patriots noted, President Trump just needs to send a memo:

…directing that the exemption be removed at a date certain in the near future – say, October 1, the start of the new fiscal year. That would create a legislative sword of Damocles hanging over members’ heads. The clock would be ticking, with a six-month countdown. And the onus would be on them – repeal ObamaCare within six months, or live under it the way the law says you were meant to, and pay the same prices average Americans are paying.

You want to help members of Congress better understand the financial pain their constituents are feeling as a result of ObamaCare, with its skyrocketing premiums, and give them a personal stake in the law’s repeal? Remove that illegal subsidy. Staff and spouses will start screaming bloody murder.

President Trump: Don’t let Congress continue to impede your domestic agenda. Cancel August recess, make Congress live under the awful health care law they passed, and let’s get to work on repealing Obamacare.

With some insurance companies reportedly seeking premium hikes in excess of 30 or even 50 percent, the stakes are extremely high. The secret to repealing Obamacare is in plain sight. It’s time to force Congress to act.
