CORTES: Media Is Gaslighting America On Biden’s Coronavirus Record

Most mainstream media mavens are brazen public relations agents for the Democratic Party.

This was starkly exposed during Sunday’s CNN interview of Trump’s economic advisor Peter Navarro.

Jake Tapper claimed to real-time “fact check” Navarro when the White House aide correctly pointed out that Biden called Trump’s China travel restrictions “xenophobic.”

But, Navarro was clearly correct, and, in reality, Tapper has been running interference on this topic for Biden for months.

On January 31st, President Trump announced the ban on travelers from China, with certain exemptions including returning American citizens. This ban was met with immediate and widespread disapproval from countless Democrats and their allies in corporate media.

That day, following the Trump announcement, appearing in Iowa, Joe Biden spoke about the virus, and here are his exact, unedited words:

“We have, right now, a crisis with the coronavirus emanating from China. A national emergency, worldwide alerts, the American people need to have a president who they can trust what he says about it. That he is going to act rationally about it. In moments like this, this is where the credibility of a president is most needed as he explains what we should and should not do. This is no time for Donald Trump’s record of hysteria xenophobia — hysterical xenophobia — and fearmongering to lead the way instead of science.

If that statement left any ambiguity, the very next day, Biden tweeted out:

“We are in the midst of a crisis with the coronavirus. We need to lead the way with science — not Donald Trump’s record of hysteria, xenophobia, and fear-mongering.”

Weeks later on March 18th, as shutdowns accelerated across America, when President Trump cited his “very early decision to close the ‘borders’ with China” that resulted in “many lives saved,” Biden responded directly to Trump with his own tweet: “Stop the xenophobic fear-mongering.”

So, in point of fact, Biden referred, repeatedly, to the president’s travel ban vs. China as xenophobic.

But Tapper has been more than willing to shed the proper skeptical approach of real journalism, and instead de facto advocate for the Biden revisionism.

Once Team Biden realized they faced a serious weakness on the travel ban issue, they determined their candidate then did actually agree with Trump’s ban, and they said so on April 1, a full two months too late for their stance to have any actual effect upon virus transmission.

Their political “make up call” carries no real-world weight, of course. Nonetheless, Tapper was willing to assist their obfuscation, claiming in his April 3 CNN column that Biden never did call Trump’s ban xenophobic, in spite of the clear evidence (cited above) to the contrary.

This pattern of Tapper – and many others at CNN – covering for Biden hardly represents an isolated incident.

Instead, it reveals a broad media approach of activists masquerading as journalists. Given this unfortunate predilection, it is no wonder that Americans’ trust in media continues to slide harshly downward. Per Gallup Poll, fully 86 percent of Americans believe there is political bias in news coverage. Similarly, 84 percent of Americans place blame for political division in our country on media.

A vibrant republic requires a healthy Fourth Estate. For our government and polity to function properly, we need a properly skeptical press that strives to separate reporting from propagandizing. Journalists intent on supporting the “resistance” to President Trump should come clean, go to work directly for Biden’s campaign, and make their case openly as the partisans that they are.
