Now that we have turned the calendar to 2020, it is time to look toward what the pro-life movement will accomplish in this new year. And, what better way to start the year with focus and motivation than by kicking it off with March for Life rallies across the country?

Why was March for Life started?
March for Life started as a small demonstration organized by pro-life advocates to commemorate the first anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision, taking place on January 22, 1974. Now, to honor the more than 60 million lives that have been taken since that decision and to spur on the pro-life movement, the current annual national rally is held on the Friday closest to the anniversary.
When will this year’s March for Life be held?
The annual March for Life in Washington D.C. has become the largest pro-life event in the world, with tens of thousands of pro-lifers converging on the National Mall and marching to Capitol Hill. This year’s march will take place on Friday, January 24, with the theme “Life Empowers: Pro-life is Pro-Woman.”
There will be a pre-rally concert from We Are Messengers, and the rally will start at 12 p.m. ET. Speakers include Marjorie Dannenfelser (president, Susan B. Anthony List); Pastor David Platt (McLean Bible Church); Representative Ann Wagner (R-Mo.); State Representative Katrina Jackson (D-La.); Representative Chris Smith (R-N.J.); and Claire Culwell, survivor of a failed surgical abortion.

What about state rallies?
If you want to attend a March for Life rally but can’t make it to Washington D.C., you’re in luck — there are state rallies and marches across the country. In addition to the thousands that attend the national march, these rallies have also drawn additional thousands of pro-lifers over the years.
Each rally and march promises to highlight passionate advocates for the pro-life movement. For example, Chicago Bears vice president and co-owner Pat McCaskey will be speaking at the March for Life in the Windy City. McCaskey’s commitment to the fight for the unborn stands in stark contrast to the recent donation the Green Bay Packers made to Planned Parenthood.

Even if you aren’t able to attend a March for Life event in person, you can be there in spirit. 2020 doesn’t just usher in a new year or a new decade — it ushers in a new era in the fight for life. Let all of us in the pro-life movement fight well.
