NCAA Caves, Joins Progressive War on North Carolina

The Big Business/Big Entertainment pile-on continues in North Carolina.

Yesterday, the NCAA announced that it would be relocating seven college athletic events from North Carolina due to HB 2, the state’s transgender bathroom law. In a press release, the group explained that the law would “make it challenging” for the NCAA to “promote an inclusive atmosphere for all college athletes, coaches, administrators, and fans,” necessitating the venue changes:

“Fairness is about more than the opportunity to participate in college sports, or even compete for championships,” said Mark Emmert, NCAA president. “We believe in providing a safe and respectful environment at our events and are committed to providing the best experience possible for college athletes, fans and everyone taking part in our championships.”

Apparently, the irony was lost on Mr. Emmert that he would lecture North Carolinians about “providing a safe and respectful environment” just days after a lawsuit was filed in Minnesota detailing how a biologically male student at a high school allegedly engaged in sexually explicit behavior after being allowed access to the girl’s locker room due to the school’s ‘gender identity’ policy.

Of course, North Carolina’s GOP spokeswoman Kami Mueller was also quick to point out the hypocrisy of the NCAA’s position:

This is so absurd it’s almost comical. I genuinely look forward to the NCAA merging all men’s and women’s teams together as singular, unified, unisex teams. Under the NCAA’s logic, colleges should make cheerleaders and football players share bathrooms, showers and hotel rooms. This decision is an assault to female athletes across the nation. If you are unwilling to have women’s bathrooms and locker rooms, how do you have a women’s team?

Not that consistency or honesty have been particular strengths of the ‘gender identity’ movement.

Unsurprisingly, Hillary Clinton was quick to tweet out support for the NCAA’s decision:

The @NCAA is right to pull tournament games from North Carolina because of the anti-LGBT HB2 law. Discrimination has no place in America. -H

With North Carolina’s Republican Gov. Pat McCrory engaged in a tough reelection battle — one which could have significant ramifications on conservatives’ future ability to fight the LGBT agenda — the NCAA’s move comes at a very opportune time for the political left. Very opportune, indeed.
