Donald Trump has taken the lead over Hillary Clinton in two national polls released this week. Fox News has Trump with a three point lead over Clinton, 45 percent to 42 percent, while Rasmussen shows Trump with a five point lead, 42 percent to 37 percent.

Furthermore, despite pundits’ predictions that Trump would fare poorly among independents, he leads the group in both polls by double digits — Fox News has him up 16; Rasmussen shows him leading by 13. And Trump’s disadvantage among female voters, which is also cited as a major problem for him, is dwarfed by Clinton’s disadvatange among men. The Rasmussen and Fox News polls show an 11 and 14 point lead for Clinton among women, respectively, while Trump leads men by 22 points in both polls.

The Fox News poll also shows a new low in Clinton’s favorability ratings: only 37 percent of registered voters now view Hillary Clinton favorably, while 61 percent view her unfavorably. This leaves her with a net favorability rating of -24, as opposed to Trump’s -15 in the same poll. When asked which candidate was more corrupt, 49 percent of voters chose Clinton, compared to 37 percent for Trump.
