I think that there is a global understanding that economics as promoted by the elite class is not producing the results that have been promised to the general public and that there is a reflexive reaction by those people against policies that remove decision-making further and further from the localities and from their governments. And that this is part of an international understanding that in the post-Bretton Woods era — the era of elites running the global economy — working people have had a stagnant return on their labor. And they want policies that return back to a focus on what’s happening to them, and I think that’s why they want more localism.
