Chinese Communist Party Database Leak Reveals Operatives Embedded In Western Companies, Governments
A leaked Chinese Communist Party database reveals millions of party members enmeshed in Western companies and government agencies.
The database, obtained by The Australian, contains the party position, birthdate, national ID number, and ethnicity of nearly two million party members and their corresponding location.
Of the 79,000 branches the Chinese government identified its apparatchiks in, many included Western companies, universities, and foreign government agencies.
Among the companies targeted are manufacturers Boeing and Volkswagen, drug giants Pfizer and AstraZeneca, and financial institutions ANZ and HSBC. Australian, British and U.S. consulates in Shanghai have also seen Chinese government operatives work in their offices.
According to Sharri Markson, the journalist who published the database, the Chinese Communist Party members working on behalf of Western companies “if called on, are answerable directly to the Communist Party and President Xi himself.”
The data was reportedly extracted in 2016 from a Shanghai-based by Chinese dissidents. It was later leaked to the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China before making its way to Western media.
