The fickle conservative movement continues to flirt around on Ted Cruz.
Conservatives! Do not be seduced into the Draft Snowzilla movement merely because this blizzard shut down the federal government!
There are few of God’s Creatures more endearing than a Shady Lady of Easy Virtue. And yet… let us pinch ourselves and remember that fidelity has virtue. And that virtue is its own reward!
The Federal Office of Personnel Management posted on it’s website in the wake of the Great Blizzard (and predictions of freezing rain):
Washington, DC Area
Applies to: Tuesday, January 26, 2016
Status: Federal Offices are Closed – Emergency and Telework-ready Employees Must Follow Their Agency’s Policies
Congress, too, stayed home.
And, indeed yes, the Dow promptly shot up by around 250 points for the day!
Ted Cruz first became a real national Tea Party darling by his (briefly effective) effort in 2013 to lead the shutdown of the federal government. As Politico then reported:
Ted Cruz faced a barrage of hostile questions Wednesday from angry GOP senators, who lashed the Texas tea party freshman for helping prompt a government shutdown crisis without a strategy to end it.
At a closed-door lunch meeting in the Senate’s Mansfield Room, Republican after Republican pressed Cruz to explain how he would propose to end the bitter budget impasse with Democrats, according to senators who attended the meeting. A defensive Cruz had no clear plan to force an end to the shutdown — or explain how he would defund Obamacare, as he has demanded all along, sources said.
And then, of course, the GOP late last year circled the wagons to prevent a second government shutdown. The Republican Leadership, however, reckoned not with Snowzilla, a force of nature even mightier than the Mighty Cruz. (Somewhere Richard Viguerie is smiling.)
Yet what do we know, really, about what Supreme Court appointments President Snowzilla would make? Where does Snowzilla stand on the flat tax? (Ted’s is only 10 percent!) The gold standard? (Ted’s for it!)
The many fatalities caused by Snowzilla — which moreover punched right during the middle of the March For Life — left Snowzilla’s pro-life credentials very open to question. So, ponder:
Draft Snowzilla? You Tea Party Flirts!
Remember your sainted mother’s wise counsel:
Dance with the one who brung ya!
