The LGBT Lobby Will Never Love Donald Trump. No Matter What.

Contrary to the conventional wisdom of the media, President Donald Trump has picked almost all the right fights during his first few weeks in office. His first slew of policy changes through executive orders have not only advanced conservative ideals and brought additional voting blocs to the table, but they have also exposed the radical agenda of those who have opposed Trump from the beginning.

Through their violent reaction to the expanded Mexico City policy, which cut around $10 billion annually from international abortion providers, to even the 90-day ban on refugees from seven countries that have problems with the promotion of terrorism, the Left is being exposed as hysterical and extreme. Beyond that, Trump’s actions have signaled to his base of voters that he is truly with them and willing to take arrows fighting for what they believe in.

There has been just one action that has stumped me — Trump’s well-intentioned but misguided bow to the LGBT lobby.

While the president was smart to end the federal government’s defense of Obama’s overreaching transgender school mandate, he has yet to take action on other misguided Obama initiatives. For example, President Trump has thus far sidestepped calls to repeal Obama’s executive order regarding federal contractors, an action which continues to imperil the religious liberty of traditional believers. And just this week, reports surfaced that Trump would be retaining the Obama-appointed “Special Envoy for the Human Rights of LGBTI Persons” at the State Department, despite that official’s role in promoting leftist issues and causes abroad.

These decisions — as well as any future actions that hurt those opposed to the radical LGBT agenda — have the potential to divide Trump’s base of supporters in a way that will endanger his political future. The working families that ensured Trump’s election find most of the LGBT agenda appalling at best and destructive at worst. From coercing Christian schools and churches to adopt sexual liberation theology to encouraging children to undergo harmful hormone treatments and sex change therapy, these families don’t believe this ideology is good for America and won’t vote to reelect a president who adopts these radical policies as part of his agenda.

Not only are these policies bad, but embracing them in an attempt to appease the radical LGBT lobby makes no political sense for Trump. If Trump and his advisors think that offering gestures to the LGBT lobby will be welcomed and appreciated, he need only to look to their response to his latest pro-LGBT lobby action. From The New York Times:

Gay rights advocates seemed unimpressed. Chad Griffin, president of the Human Rights Campaign, said Mr. Trump was setting a low bar by claiming credit for not overturning the actions of his predecessor.

“L.G.B.T.Q. refugees, immigrants, Muslims and women are scared today, and with good reason,” Mr. Griffin said. “Donald Trump has done nothing but undermine equality since he set foot in the White House.”

The LGBT lobby will never stop hating President Trump, let alone show any appreciation for gestures of good will towards them. Any attempt to placate them will be met with increased hostility and opposition.

Remember that this is a political coalition that wants to force Catholic nuns to pay for birth control against their conscience. This is a coalition that seeks to force pro-life Christian doctors to perform and refer for abortions, a practice that they believe kills an unborn child. This is a coalition that seeks to keep parents from knowing when their child is suffering from confusion regarding their sexuality or gender.

There can be no peace or harmony because the Left won’t allow it. They will not stop until their agenda is fully enacted — where exactly it stops, nobody knows. President Trump should be combatting this radical agenda, not advancing it.

Fighting this agenda has the potential to win the support of all those disaffected social conservative voters that sat on the sidelines or even voted for Hillary Clinton last November. Trump won’t just be maintaining the support he already has; he will be growing his base and expanding the map. The president would be wise to reject the LGBT lobby and their harmful, radical agenda, not only for the sake of his re-election, but for the sake of putting Americans first.
