New Democrat Dogma: No “Decent” Person Can Oppose Same-Sex Marriage

Democrats are now openly saying that if you disagree with same-sex marriage, you’re no longer a decent person.

Some on the Left have been saying that for a few years now, forgetting that Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama both publicly opposed same-sex marriage as recently as seven years ago. But now, even prominent national Democrats who want to be president are declaring it.

The most recent incident of this started when former Vice President Joe Biden referred to current Vice President Mike Pence as “a decent guy.” Pence has had the reputation as one of the nicest people in Washington, D.C. for many years now. Biden and Pence reportedly talk regularly, at least as recently as 2017. And good ol’ boy Joe Biden has spent decades in D.C. stoking his own reputation as a nice guy for being willing to socialize with people across the aisle. There’s nothing surprising about a Democrat calling a Republican “a decent guy.” At least there used to be nothing surprising.

However, this lukewarm compliment by Biden is evidently no longer allowed by today’s Left. Cynthia Nixon, who lost a primary challenge to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo last year, ignited the firestorm when she said this:

Biden could have used this moment to call for civility and respect. He spoke glowingly of his bipartisan relationship with the late Senator John McCain at his funeral. He also claims to be a Catholic, and Pope Francis and the Catholic Church oppose same-sex marriage. Opposing same-sex marriage is a perfectly legitimate opinion that 48 percent of Americans still hold, according to a recent poll. But the 76-year-old Biden cowered instead:

As Ben Shapiro wrote, “Pence, in other words, didn’t agree withNixon; this made Pence a non-person. And Biden had to participate in Pence’sun-personing in order to purchase an indulgence from Cynthia Nixon and herWokescolds.”

Fellow Democrat and 2020 candidate Elizabeth Warren piled on. When asked about the controversy in Iowa, Warren said, “I’m sorry, I followed Pence’s history on LBGTQ Americans and I don’t think that is a decent position.” A reporter followed up, “You don’t think the vice president is a decent man?” Warren replied, “No.”

So there you have it, folks. According to the Left, if you oppose same-sex marriage for any reason, whether it’s religious, political, or philosophical, you are indecent and should not be allowed to serve in public life. Never mind that same-sex marriage was invented 20 years ago, that every human civilization in history until 2001 held marriage to be only between a man and a woman, and that most Democrats opposed same-sex marriage just a few years ago. In the race to see who can be the most intersectional, Democrats have declared their contempt for not only people who disagree with them, but anyone who dares to say anything nice about people who disagree with them.
