The outcome of the 2018 midterm races certainly did not lack for interesting results. Wins and losses for all parties, drastic surprises, and expected finishes — the results were a mixed bag across the board. In the midst of it all, however, several pro-life candidates emerged victorious, winning their respective races.
Here are five of the most notable pro-life midterm winners:
1.) Senator-elect Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.)
Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn has been establishing her pro-life record for years, serving as the U.S. Representative for Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District. She will now continue to be a voice for the voiceless in the U.S. Senate after defeating her Democrat opponent Phil Bredesen.
2.) Senator-elect Josh Hawley (R-Mo.)
Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley defeated his state’s Democratic incumbent U.S. senator, Claire McCaskill. Hawley has been known for his pro-life record for years, and was endorsed by Missouri Right to Life during the Republican primary in addition to earning an endorsement from National Right to Life.
3.) Governor Kim Reynolds (R-Iowa)
Although Kim Reynolds had initially become Iowa’s governor when her predecessor, Terry Branstad, was appointed to be the U.S. ambassador to China, she has now officially been elected into office, becoming Iowa’s first elected female governor. Winning the gubernatorial race as such an adamantly pro-life woman was made even more notable by the fact that Reynolds’ Democrat opponent, Fred Hubbell, is the former chair for Planned Parenthood of Mid-Iowa.
4.) Congresswoman-elect Young Kim (R – Calif.)
Young Kim, who was endorsed by the Susan B. Anthony List, will be serving as the U.S. Representative for California’s 39th Congressional District. Kim will also be the first Korean-American woman to serve in Congress.
5.) Governor-elect Kristi Noem (R – S.D.)
Serving the people of South Dakota as U.S. Representative for the state’s at-large congressional district for years, Governor-elect Kristi Noem will now be serving as South Dakota’s first female governor. Noem earned an endorsement from South Dakota Right to Life for her pro-life record and vision for the state.
It is also worthy to note that while the popular narrative of liberal identity politics is that women are adamantly pro-abortion, four out of the five elected officials listed above are women. The pro-life movement made waves across the country during the 2018 elections, and it does not seem like progress will be slowing down anytime soon.
