The Democrats think they are ready for 2020. They say they are new (!), improved (!), and ready to rumble!
And their new, fresh candidate is… Joe Biden?
Former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. is planning to create a political action committee, the most concrete sign yet that he intends to remain active in the Democratic Party and is considering a presidential bid in 2020.
The “American Possibilities” PAC, which Mr. Biden intends to unveil on Thursday, will offer the former vice president a platform he can use to nurture relationships with donors, travel on behalf of the party and contribute to candidates in the two governor’s races in November and in next year’s midterm elections.
By creating a political organization, Mr. Biden, 74, is also sending an unmistakable message to the many other Democrats eyeing the White House that he is not planning to quietly recede into retirement.
Notably, Biden attacked the Democrats’ most recent nominee, Hillary Clinton:
At the gathering in Las Vegas, Mr. Biden was blunt in his assessment of Mrs. Clinton.
“I never thought she was a great candidate,” he said. “I thought I was a great candidate.” (He did note that he thought “Hillary would have been a really good president.”)
The Democrats are going to have a difficult time beating President Donald Trump if they can’t find a fresh face. Joe Biden? Hillary Clinton? Bernie Sanders? Sorry, not gonna work.
If Democrats can’t come up with a different candidate, it will be a sure guarantee of eight years of Trump.
