Kardian: How is Joe Biden Getting Away With This?

The Democrat-Media Complex’s tepid reaction to a serious and credible allegation that presidential candidate Joe Biden sexually assaulted a former staff member in the early 1990s represents the height of self-serving hypocrisy.

In the #MeToo era, liberals — including Biden himself — insist that we must “believe” all women who claim to be victims of sexual misconduct. As far as leading Democrats and their media allies are concerned, however, that standard apparently disappears if the accused happens to be the Democratic presidential candidate.

The accusation against Biden is significantly stronger than the dubious allegations leveled against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh during his confirmation hearings in 2018, when prominent Democrats all but demanded that Kavanaugh be judged guilty in the court of public opinion and in the U.S. Senate confirmation process.

The former vice president’s accuser, Tara Reade, gave a detailed account and claimed she both filed a report and told senior senate staff members at the time the assault allegedly occurred.

And then things started to get really bad for Creepy Joe as Reade’s story gained corroboration.

Her brother said Ms. Reade told him and his mother about the incident in 1993, and archival footage confirms that Reade’s mother even alluded to it in a contemporaneous call that aired on Larry King Live on CNN that year. Two more women subsequently came forward to affirm — on the record — that Reade had, in tears, told them substantially the same story in the mid-’90s.

Based on Biden’s own standards, which he articulated during the Kavanaugh hearings, the situation is pretty grim. “For a woman to come forward in the glaring lights of focus, nationally, you’ve got to start off with the presumption that at least the essence of what she’s talking about is real,” Biden declared less than two years ago.

Nonetheless, prominent Democrats such as Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer took the exact opposite approach, declaring that they believe Biden’s circuitous denials rather than Reade’s eminently plausible allegation.

Biden’s former primary opponent, New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, is also eager to shill for him.

Gillibrand, who demanded that the FBI investigate Brett Kavanaugh’s high school drinking habits, is now disingenuously insisting that there’s nothing to see here. This from a woman who was happy to overlook Bill Clinton’s history of sexual misconduct when she needed his help on the campaign trail.

It’s particularly odd to see Democrats rushing to Biden’s defense in light of his blatant efforts to mislead journalists seeking to verify Reade’s claim that she filed a personnel complaint with Biden’s office around the time of the alleged assault.

After vehemently denying that the complaint would be among his personal papers at the University of Delaware, Biden went to both the National Archives and the secretary of the Senate — who ultimately concluded that the records would most likely be found in Biden’s archives.

This doesn’t mean we should assume Biden’s guilt — even if his own words practically beg us to do just that. It does, however, raise the serious question of how the accusation against Biden is not the single biggest story in the country, at least in the political news cycle.

If the unsubstantiated claims made about Brett Kavanaugh by people who opposed him politically were worthy of the nation’s undivided attention because he was a Supreme Court nominee, then surely the same treatment is justified for thoroughly corroborated claims made about the presumptive presidential nominee of a major party by people who support him politically.

The entire political left in this country — the mainstream media, liberal activists, and Democrat politicians alike — is paralyzed by the allegations against Biden. Evidently, they never imagined that unproven allegations could ever become a political liability for them when they launched their crusade against Kavanaugh.

In 2018, for instance, the news media gave prime billing to a practically impossible accusation against Kavanaugh, refusing to back down even as the claims disintegrated under the most cursory scrutiny. When the news first broke about the allegation against Biden, however, the same “feminist” pundits who went on the warpath against Kavanaugh started runninginterference for Biden.

The New York Times — which ran dozens of stories casting Kavanaugh’s accusers in a heroic light without bothering to ask for a shred of evidence — covered the Reade story as if Biden’s defense lawyers were writing the articles, tweeting that its investigation “found no pattern of sexual misconduct by Biden” — other than a decades-long pattern of “hugs, kisses, and touching that women previously said made them uncomfortable.”

This media malpractice is matched by the liberal activist class, which has been at the forefront of every attempt to weaponize #MeToo against conservatives. The very same celebrities, non-profit groups, and lawyers who conducted a coordinated campaign of character assassination against Brett Kavanaugh are now doing the same — to Biden’s accuser. They tell us that Ms. Reade is a liar, or at the very least, that they don’t want to get involved in this particular instance of a powerful man allegedly taking advantage of a female subordinate.

The issue is not whether or not Reade’s accusation is true — that’s certainly important, and we’ll get to the bottom of it in due time, but for now there’s an even more fundamental issue that needs to be addressed. Joe Biden can’t be allowed to sidestep and ignore the very serious accusation against him, especially after his support for the mob that tried to destroy Kavanaugh just 18 months ago.
