Speaking at a rally in Marshalltown, Iowa, Democrat presidential primary candidate Elizabeth Warren demanded that men who identify as women and are incarcerated should be placed in female prisons.
“We have to stop putting trans women who are incarcerated into prisons with men where they are at risk. It is our responsibility,” Warren said Sunday.
Conservative firebrand Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) responded on Twitter, “I’m guessing the trans women population in prison would skyrocket under a Warren Presidency.”
Writing at the Federalist, author Chrissy Clark states:
Placing a biological man in a prison with a biological women could have extreme consequences for the safety of jailed women. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, approximately 80,000 inmates get raped each year. Women are raped disproportionately more than men and are also more likely to be raped by another inmate.
It would be unfair for women to be put in prisons with biological males. Not only do women have a higher chance of being raped than their male counterparts, but now they must be jailed with male genitalia as well. This would also increase the likelihood that women contract sexually transmitted diseases.

A 2017 study by the Fair Play for Women campaign showed that half of all transgender prisoners in the United Kingdom are sex offenders or dangerous category A inmates.
Back in 2012, then-Harvard law professor Warren opposed a federal court order to allow a sex change operation for a convicted murderer
“I have to say… I don’t think it’s a good use of taxpayer dollars,” she said at the time.
