A recent article from Bustle attempted to portray Marco Rubio as changing his stance on marriage. The article cites a video from January 8th in which Rubio is asked about his position on marriage in relation to Jeb Bush:

Alexandra Jaffe: “Now, there’s been a lot of talk about Governor Bush, and you know, his, sort of, twist of words on gay marriage. How do you feel he handled that?”

Marco Rubio: “Well, I haven’t, to be quite frank, haven’t even seen what he said, we’ve been busy, so I wouldn’t want to comment on what he said. I can tell you— you know my position on it is pretty well known, I mean, I believe that the institution of marriage is defined as the union of one man and one woman. I understand that voters in some states have changed that, I respect it. You know, we have a court system that’s beginning to weigh in. And whatever the law is, we’re going to abide by it and respect it.

The article accompanying the video also quotes Rubio as saying:

“I wouldn’t agree with their ruling, but that would be the law of the land that we would have to follow until it’s somehow reversed — either by a future Supreme Court, or a U.S. constitutional amendment, which I don’t think is realistic or foreseeable,” he said.

He said he expects the question “is ultimately going to find its way to the U.S. Supreme court,” noting that many federal courts have recently issued rulings overturning state bans on gay marriage.

These previous comments hardly “fly in the face” of his recent comments as the Bustle article would have you believe. Rubio was for traditional marriage then and is for traditional marriage now.
