Governor Christie has leading Common Core supporters worried. The potential 2016 GOP candidate is expected to make statements tonight that will more clearly define his stance on Common Core. The Wall Street Journal reports:

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is planning to give remarks on “academic standards” Thursday, and some education leaders expressed concern Wednesday that he might retreat further from his past support of the Common Core.

Christie has maintained the attention of Common Core supporters and opponents alike since his statement in 2013 about implementing the program in his state. Within the last several months, however, he has made several statements suggesting his support for the program is waning.

In February, Gov. Christie told the press he had “grave concerns” with the standards, and in a later interview, he admitted to “implementation regrets” regarding the Common Core in New Jersey. A later interview in April confirmed Christie’s further regression from his initial support, when he conceded, “I’m open to changing it.”
