More Sanctuary Cities? This Country Legend Just Tweeted a Genius Idea

Country music legend Charlie Daniels isn’t exactly afraid of weighing in on politics.

In a relatively unnoticed tweet — Breitbart News first covered it — Daniels argued that, if the Left thinks “sanctuary cities” should be able to defy federal law on immigration, the Right should do the same thing and create pro-life sanctuary cities.

It’s a pretty clever idea. If the Left is going to defy federal law on immigration, why shouldn’t pro-lifers do the same thing in regard to Roe v. Wade? Any states or small cities out there willing to give it a try?

Pro-abortion activists have already done something similar in St. Louis. In February, the St. Louis City Board of Aldermen passed a “non-discrimination ordinance” that included abortion protections. The law would ban any private or religious employer from firing or not hiring someone because they had an abortion.

The Washington Free Beacon reports:

The vote sparked opposition from religious organizations, including the Catholic Church and conservative Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, which said the law would violate religious liberty. Catholic Archbishop Robert J. Carlson called the bill “horrible” in a statement.

“I am outraged that the City of St. Louis Board of Aldermen has now enshrined into law an ordinance which creates a ‘sanctuary’ for the despicable practice of abortion,” Carlson said. “This horrible piece of legislation will now force city residents to be unwilling participants in the abortion business by requiring business owners and individuals to tacitly approve any ‘reproductive health’ decisions made by their employees or tenants.”

Would the same Leftists arguing that cities have the jurisdictional power to defy federal law on immigration or religious freedom support pro-lifers defying the federal government using the same dubious “sanctuary city” mechanism?

What do you think? Should we create pro-life sanctuary cities and states that defy Roe v. Wade because it’s bad law?
