As its revenue declines, Planned Parenthood is reportedly trying to increase business by moving into a new market: transgender hormones.
More women are apparently realizing that Planned Parenthood is not a great source of health care after all, as evidenced by the abortion giant’s 2016-2017 annual report showing decreasing numbers in both abortions and patients seen for typical medical services. In an effort to boost revenue again, President Cecile Richards announced that the organization is “expanding access to care.”
“[F]rom pioneering research on self-injectable birth control to offering new services for our transgender patients…Planned Parenthood has focused on expanding services to people who are too often overlooked by the larger medical community — including trans patients,” continued the message from Richards.
According to the National Center for Transgender Equality, transgender hormone therapy will be covered by Medicare when “medically necessary.”
The report released by Planned Parenthood announced that 17 states now have centers that perform hormonal therapy. Although only 0.6 percent of the American population identifies as transgender, the organization is doing what it can to create a new base as women go elsewhere in droves.
In 2017, Planned Parenthood recorded seeing 2.4 million patients, which is a 20 percent decrease from 2010. Additionally, there was $43.3 million in assets lost, including the loss of property as 33 Planned Parenthood clinics closed their doors.
To the delight of pro-life activists, Planned Parenthood’s abortion numbers have also dropped. Although the abortion provider terminated the lives of 321,384 unborn children in 2017, that represented a decline from the 328,348 aborted in 2016.
This drop in abortions is largely due to a decrease happening on a national scale. Abortion rates in America are at the lowest they have been since Roe v. Wade. In fact, according to a recent Guttmacher Institute study, the abortion rate fell to 14.3 in 1,000 women in 2016, surpassing the former low of 16.3 which occurred right after the U.S. Supreme Court declared abortion a constitutional right in 1973.
Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America, was happy with what the quiet release Planned Parenthood’s annual report means for the organization as a while. “The stealth release of Planned Parenthood’s annual report over the holidays shows that the Abortion Goliath is crying crocodile tears all the way to the bank — a fact they clearly hoped no one would notice,” she stated.
