Univision Gave Just 14 Seconds of Coverage to Trump’s Hispanic ‘Economic Miracle’

Spanish-language news outlets Univision and Telemundo dedicated just 14 and 26 seconds respectively to the economic miracle President Trump’s policies have fostered for the Hispanic community.

The numbers, from January, were highlighted by the Media Research Center’s Latino division.

President Trump has kept Hispanic unemployment under five percent for 21 straight months and is on track to continue the trend. Prior to his presidency, the Hispanic unemployment rate had only dipped below five percent once in 2006.

Despite this, Spanish-speaking media outlets and their english-speaking counterparts turned a blind eye.

Instead, Univision devoted nearly 352 times the amount of coverage to immigration and nearly 176 times to impeachment as they did jobs and unemployment.

Similarly, Telemundo dedicated over 258 times as much air time to immigration and nearly 81 times as much on impeachment.

In December, when Univision anchor Jorge Ramos actually covered the November jobs report, he took issue with the Hispanic unemployment rising one-tenth of a single percentage point despite the number itself being a record low.

Hispanic unemployment hit a 50-year low of three percent under the Trump administration, the lowest number ever recorded since officials began tracking the number.

Ramos complained: “The US economy generated 266,000 jobs last month, reducing the national unemployment rate to 3.5 percent. That is the lowest (rate) in 50 years. The number of Hispanics with jobs went up to 28,350,000, which is a new record. Even so, the unemployment rate among Hispanics increased from 4.1 percent in October to 4.2 percent in November, according to data from the Department of Labor.”
