Trump Admin Terminates 5 Chinese Communist Party ‘Soft Power’ Influence Ops

Start

The Trump administration has terminated five cultural-exchange programs with China, previously used to promote Chinese Communist Party propaganda.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo described the now-defunct programs as fully financed by the Chinese Communist Party “as soft power propaganda tools.” They provided “carefully curated access to Chinese Communist Party officials, not to the Chinese people, who do not enjoy freedoms of speech and assembly,” he added.

Among the programs targeted are the Policymakers Educational China Trip Program, the U.S.-China Friendship Program, the U.S.-China Leadership Exchange Program, the U.S.-China Transpacific Exchange Program and the Hong Kong Educational and Cultural Program.
