Georgia Senator Warnock Under Investigation for Voter Registration Anomalies

The Georgia State Election Board voted unanimously to investigate Senator Raphael Warnock for his role as Chairman of a voter registration organization that violated state laws.

The group in question – New Georgia Project – was founded by Stacey Abrams in 2014 and counted Warnock as Chairman throughout 2019. He stepped down on January 28, 2020.

“Under Georgia election rules, voting registration organizations like the New Georgia Project have to submit completed voter applications within ten days after they are received from the voter. But officials allege that during a 2019 registration effort, some 1,268 applications were submitted to the Gwinnett County elections office after the ten-day deadline,” Forbes summarizes.

As a result, the Election Board voted unanimously to refer the investigation to Georgia’s Attorney General Chris Carr, with the board’s sole Democrat and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger abstaining from the vote.
