City officials in Lyon, France have signaled their intention to hand public cash to an environmentalist group carrying out “ecosex” performances in front of children. The Lundy Grandpré group is in line for a €1,500 (~$1,627) cultural grant from town hall, reports French media.
Described as an “ecofeminist” and “ecosexual” movement, the decision to give Lundy Grandpré public money has understandably caused outrage. Their antics have included a performance involving naked men and women simulating sex with plantlife in front of small children. This was described on their website as a “dance together in homage to dildos, subverting links between the public and the private, the intimate and the political.”
Pierre Oliver, a right-leaning mayor for one of Lyon’s districts, shared a video of one of their performances on social media, lamenting that the “militant and extremist use of the budget no longer has any limits.”
“Ecosexuals” the world over were celebrated for “queering environmentalism” by Teen Vogue in 2017.
