Democrat-run Washington D.C. receives more 911 calls than any U.S. state, according to research by the Schiller Kessler Group (SKG). Examining the number of emergency calls from the District from 2019 to 2021, the attorneys estimated an average of 2,012 calls per 1,000 residents.
This places the U.S. capital a remarkable 72 percent ahead of the worst-rated U.S. state, New Mexico, which saw an average of 1,169 emergency calls per 1,000 residents.

While SKG did not analyze calls from 2022 to 2023, serious crime in D.C. worsened substantially last year, with homicides increasing by 35 percent to 274 and shootings increasing by 10 percent to 960. Over a hundred of the shooting victims were minors, including two slain infants.
Carjackings were also a growing issue, continuing into 2024. A recent carjacking spree saw two people murdered, including former Donald Trump administration official Mike Gill.
Washington D.C. is governed by Muriel Bowser, a Democrat, and a City Council comprised entirely of Democrats and former Democrats sitting as independents.

Mark Anderson, a 36-year-old man from Mankato, Minnesota, was arrested at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn on Wednesday evening after allegedly impersonating a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent. Anderson claimed he had a court order to release Luigi Mangione, who is accused of assassinating UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. According to the criminal complaint, Anderson presented a Minnesota driver’s license when asked for credentials and carried a bag containing a barbecue fork and a pizza cutter.
“Anderson also displayed and threw at the BOP officers numerous documents,” an FBI agent wrote in the federal criminal complaint, adding: “I have reviewed those papers and they appear to be related to filing of claims against the United States Department of Justice.” The 36-year-old Minnesotan is charged with impersonating a federal agent and is set to appear in Brooklyn federal court.
Luigi Mangione, a 27-year-old accused of stalking and fatally shooting Brian Thompson on December 4, 2024, outside a Manhattan hotel, remains in custody without bail. Mangione was arrested five days after the incident at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania. He has pleaded not guilty to both state and federal charges.
Federal prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for Mangione if convicted, with a judge expected to rule soon on whether the death penalty will be pursued. Meanwhile, state prosecutors in Manhattan are aiming to set Mangione’s murder trial for July 2026, ahead of a separate federal case where jury selection is scheduled to begin in September.
The National Pulse reported last October that Mangione has reportedly built up a $40,000 commissary balance while in custody. The money, according to a jailhouse source, has come largely from his leftist supporters. Additionally, sources say Mangione receives between 100 to 200 letters a day, many of them reportedly from women expressing romantic interest. Mark Zuckerberg‘s Meta technology company has restricted the ability of users to share links to a website known as the “ICE List” across Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, confirming this week that the site violates the company’s privacy policies. The ICE List database claims to publish identifying information on thousands of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and other federal law enforcement personnel.
Meta spokesman Andy Stone said the company acted under its community standards on privacy, which prohibit the sharing or solicitation of personally identifiable information. Those rules, he said, apply regardless of the political context surrounding the content.
Dominick Skinner, the founder of the ICE List website, has previously described his database project as a way to hold ICE agents accountable for alleged abuses of power. “If there’s a policy violation, we are the only one flagged, despite other sites sharing more,” he claimed.
The Trump administration has taken the opposite view, characterizing the database as doxing and warning that publishing agents’ identities could endanger law enforcement officers and their families. Database websites like ICE List are often used to target and harass suspected federal law enforcement and other government officials, and have resulted in violent confrontations.
The move by Meta comes amid heightened scrutiny of anti-ICE activism and organizing efforts. Recent reports revealed leaked messages from encrypted Signal chats in which activists coordinated efforts to monitor ICE activity and mobilize protests. In one message, a Democratic state lawmaker encouraged participation in such groups, stating, “We’ve got a couple of groups on the app Signal that we would love for you to join, whether or not you want to be part of the resistance network—I fully understand that you may not be comfortable with that.”
Federal authorities have since confirmed they are reviewing those communications. FBI Director Kash Patel said the bureau is investigating the Signal groups, warning, “If they break the law, you should be worried; it’s that simple.”
Tech companies have previously faced pressure from federal officials over tools perceived as facilitating the tracking of ICE agents. Appleremoved several ICE-tracking applications from its App Store after law enforcement raised safety concerns.

Notably, major sporting events, like the Super Bowl, are considered Special Event Assessment Rating (SEAR) 1, which almost always entails a heavy presence of federal agents, along with state and local law enforcement and private security.

According to the White House border czar, Ellison has committed to ensuring that Minnesota county jails will now notify ICE agents as to the release dates for individuals deemed “criminal public safety risks.” Homan continued, “One ICE agent can arrest one bad guy when he’s behind the safety and security of a jail when he’s behind bars, and we know he doesn’t have weapons.”
Despite the agreement on handing over “criminal public safety risks,” Homan stressed that ICE operations would continue until “the problem’s gone.” He stated that illegal immigrants posing public safety or national security threats would be prioritized for enforcement actions.
Homan was dispatched to Minnesota by U.S. President Donald J. The Trump administration has announced plans to permit Venezuela to sell oil currently under sanctions, with the caveat that revenue will be directed to funding essential government services. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed the arrangement during a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing, stating that the U.S. Treasury Department would oversee the process to ensure the funds are used appropriately.
“The funds from that will be deposited into an account that we will have oversight over,” Rubio said. He added that the revenue would be used for the benefit of the Venezuelan people, including funding for healthcare and public safety. The U.S. will not subsidize oil industry investments in Venezuela but will oversee the sale of petroleum as an interim measure to prevent economic collapse.
Rubio highlighted that under the South American country’s former Marxist dictator, Nicolás Maduro, Venezuela’s oil industry was exploited to benefit corrupt officials and communist states like China and Cuba. He noted that Venezuela’s interim leaders are now cooperating with the U.S. to seize illegal oil shipments. Revenue from oil sales is expected to flow into sovereign wealth funds, with one supporting healthcare services and the other improving public infrastructure.
Acting Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez confirmed that her government has established communication channels with U.S. officials. Rodríguez also announced efforts to revamp the country’s energy laws to attract private foreign investment. The U.S. fund for oil revenue was initially set up in Qatar to avoid legal complications and ensure American creditors do not seize the proceeds.
Rubio clarified that while the U.S. controls the dispersal of funds, the account itself belongs to Venezuela. “It’s an account that belongs to Venezuela, but it has U.S. sanctions as a blocking mechanism,” he said. Hundreds of millions of dollars have already been set aside, with as much as $3 billion more anticipated from future sales.
While Rubio’s comments suggest progress in transitioning Venezuela away from the practices of the Maduro regime continues, hurdles remain. The National Pulse reported on Monday that Rodríguez appears to be publicly breaking with U.S. President Donald J. Trump, delivering a sharp rebuke of American involvement in Venezuelan politics during a speech to oil workers in Puerto La Cruz last Sunday. “Enough already of Washington’s orders over politicians in Venezuela,” she said, calling for the country to resolve its own internal conflicts.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) on Tuesday arrested dozens of anti-ICE agitators after they attempted to occupy a New York City hotel lobby and blocked pedestrians in the area. The protest occurred at the Hilton Garden Inn on Sixth Avenue in the Tribeca neighborhood of Lower Manhattan.

The Sunrise Movement, a far-left activist group that organized the protest, claimed the hotel was housing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and other federal law enforcement. The group stated on social media, “BREAKING: 65+ New Yorkers have been arrested for occupying the lobby of a Hilton in NYC that’s housing ICE. Everyday people have the power to shut down ICE’s ability to operate. We are making it impossible for ICE to get a moment’s rest.”

Another post from the organization claimed, “100+ New Yorkers have taken over the lobby of a Hilton housing ICE agents. We won’t stand for a company that aids a fascist military killing and abducting our neighbors.” Protestors chanted slogans such as “No ICE, No KKK, No Fascist USA” and “ICE out of New York.”
In one video, protestors reportedly chanted, “Kristi Noem will hang,” referencing Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem. Nevertheless, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s spokesman, Sam Raskin, said the city government backed the protestors, stating, “Mayor Mamdani commends the protestors who exercised their right to protest against ICE today. As he has said, ICE is a rogue agency that has repeatedly carried out cruel, inhumane, and lawless raids, arrests, shootings, and even targeted American citizens.”
