The National Pulse reported on Wednesday that a leaked CBS interview from last month shows Porter rudely berating reporter Julie Watts, who pressed her on the need to win over Trump voters in California’s gubernatorial race. Porter became visibly angry when Watts did not immediately accept that she did not need Trump voters’ support, questioning her line of inquiry and accusing the journalist of being “unnecessarily argumentative.”
The videos and leaked interview have sparked bipartisan criticism. Fellow California Democrat Xavier Becerra, and potential gubernatorial candidate, said of Porter’s dismissal of Trump voters, “I’m not interested in excluding any vote. China has imposed new restrictions on exporting rare earth minerals and other critical materials, likely impacting U.S. and. European manufacturers and defense industries. The new export controls were detailed in two notices from China‘s Commerce Ministry on Thursday.
China, which dominates the global supply of rare earths, stated that the measures are necessary to “safeguard national security and interests.” Under the new rules, foreign exporters of products containing rare earths sourced from China must obtain licenses from Beijing’s commerce ministry. Licenses for products with “military use” will largely be denied, according to Chinese authorities.
The rules also bar Chinese firms from cooperating in specified fields and deny export licenses to foreign entities classified as dual-use or military end users. These restrictions could directly affect American companies that supply the U.S. Department of War. Export applications for advanced semiconductor-related items will now be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
A Chinese Commerce Ministry spokesman stated, “For some time now, some foreign organizations and individuals have been transferring or supplying controlled rare earth items originating in China, either directly or after processing, to organizations and individuals concerned for direct or indirect use in sensitive areas such as the military, causing significant harm or posing a potential threat to China’s national security and interests.”
The new rules are seen as a strategic move by Beijing ahead of a planned meeting between President Donald J. Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the APEC summit in South Korea. Beijing controls 60 percent of global production and an estimated 90 percent of processing, giving it significant leverage in negotiations with the United States.
The National Pulse reported earlier this year that President Trump had loosened some tariffs on China on the understanding that Beijing would reciprocate by removing certain controls on rare earth minerals. Jihad al-Shamie, the Syrian immigrant responsible for the deadly attack at a synagogue in Manchester, England, on Yom Kippur, called emergency services during the assault to declare his allegiance to the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist group. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed that al-Shamie dialed the 999 emergency line just minutes after the first reports of the incident were received, using the call to both claim responsibility and express his support for the Islamic terrorist group. He is also reported to have had three wives, including two white converts.
Assistant Chief Constable Rob Potts of Counter Terrorism Policing North West said, “Minutes after the first call was made to GMP and as firearms officers were making their way to the scene, al-Shamie called 999 claiming responsibility for the attack. He also pledged allegiance to Islamic State.”
The attack began when Al-Shamie drove a car into worshippers outside the Heaton Park Hebrew Synagogue. He then exited the vehicle armed with knives and wearing a fake suicide belt, attempting to stab people and storm the building during the Yom Kippur service. Worshippers and security staff managed to hold the synagogue doors shut until armed officers arrived.
Two men were killed in the incident. Melvin Cravitz, 66, died at the scene, while Adrian Daulby, 53, was fatally shot by police by mistake while trying to keep the attacker from entering the building. Another man, Yoni Finlay, was also wounded by police gunfire and remains in hospital.
Although al-Shamie pledged allegiance to ISIS in his 999 call, MI5 has found no evidence of direct contact between him and any proscribed terrorist group. Police now believe he was a self-radicalised lone actor inspired by Islamist extremist ideology. He was not previously known to MI5 or the government’s Prevent programme.
The attack has intensified scrutiny of the United Kingdom’s counter-terrorism systems, particularly following reports that al-Shamie was on bail for a rape charge at the time of the incident. His ability to carry out a deadly attack while supposedly under police supervision has raised questions about their handling of high-risk individuals.

Doreen Greenwald, president of the National Treasury Employees Union, warned that taxpayers should expect delays. “Taxpayers around the country will now have a much harder time getting the assistance they need, just as they get ready to file their extension returns due next week,” she stated. Greenwald also emphasized that the growing backlog of work will frustrate taxpayers further as the shutdown persists.
The notice to IRS workers confirmed that furloughed employees and those remaining on the job will receive back pay once the shutdown ends. However, the Trump administration recently cautioned that there is no guarantee of back pay for federal workers during a shutdown unless Congress explicitly appropriates money for the back pay. Last week, the administration estimated that approximately 750,000 federal employees across various agencies would be furloughed, with some potentially losing their jobs.
The IRS, which employed roughly 100,000 workers at the end of 2024, has seen its workforce reduced to around 75,000 as a result of mass layoffs earlier this year.

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker (D) has bizarrely compared President Donald J. Trump’s law enforcement policies to oppression in the Third Reich in a new interview. “In the early days of the Nazi regime, they started slowly but surely taking away people’s rights, and what we’re seeing now is the very same thing,” Pritzker said in an interview this week, in reference to the Trump administration’s deployment of federal forces to cities grappling with incredibly high levels of violent crime in Democrat-run cities.
The comments came after National Guard troops, including several hundred from Texas, arrived in Chicago as part of a federal crime crackdown. Despite Chicago’s ongoing violent crime crisis, Pritzker and other Illinois Democrats are pushing back. The governor claims the deployment is part of a broader plan to “militarize” American cities ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
“Next year, I fear that what they’re going to do is deploy these folks eventually to polling places and say they’re protecting the vote,” Pritzker said. “Donald Trump knows that without shenanigans and without these breaches of the Constitution, he’s going to lose the Congress.”
The White House Rapid Response team slammed the remarks, calling Pritzker a “SICK scumbag” and accusing him of encouraging left-wing extremism with his dangerous rhetoric. Pritzker blamed Trump for “causing the mayhem on the ground,” in response, ignoring the fact that Chicago is often subjected to tens of shootings on the weekend already.
The latest deployments come as federal judges and state officials spar over the legality of Trump’s troop movements. In Oregon, a federal judge temporarily blocked similar efforts to send troops to Portland, Oregon. However, in Illinois, no such ruling has been made yet.
Chicago has long been a focal point for debates over federal intervention. Violent crime remains well above national averages, and cooperation between local and federal law enforcement on migrant crime has been strained under Illinois’s sanctuary state policies.
One recent incident in Broadview, Illinois, saw federal agents attacked while local police allegedly stood down. The standoff highlighted the ongoing breakdown in cooperation between state and federal agencies under Democrat leadership.
