Populist Politician Stabbed in Same City Where Afghan Killed Cop at Anti-Islam Rally.

Heinrich Koch, a 62-year-old local council candidate for Alternative for Germany (AfD), was stabbed on Tuesday night after confronting a young man who was pulling down political posters in Mannheim. Last Friday, an Afghan migrant attacked a Mannheim anti-Islamization rally organized by the Citizens’ Movement Pax Europa (BpE). Islam critic Michael Stürzenberger and a police officer named as Rouven L. were among the people stabbed by the Afghan, with the officer later dying.

AfD state chairman Markus Frohnmaier said he was “shocked and dismayed” by Koch’s stabbing. National spokesman Tino Chrupalla said the populist party’s “members and representatives are the most frequent victims of political violence” in Germany, but this would not stop them. Koch was reportedly wounded in the stomach and ear and is currently hospitalized.

He captured the incident on video, and the footage is circulating on social media, with some sources describing the attacker as ANTIFA. However, as of the time of publication, this is unconfirmed, and he remains at large.

The AfD is one of several anti-mass migration parties in Western Europe that is expected to make a significant breakthrough in the European Parliament elections later this month. Recent polls have the party either tying or leading the governing Social Democrats, with a significant advantage over its coalition partners, the far-left Greens and neoliberal Free Democrats.

The AfD’s increasing support increasingly perturbs the German political establishment. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has suggested the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution could ban the populist party as a right-wing extremist organization. The notionally center-right Christian Democrats, formerly led by Angela Merkel, have also been working on legislation to outlaw the party.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) on Monday nominated California Representative Eric Swalwell (D-CA) to be the top Democrat on the new Republican-led January 6 committee, tasked with investigating the Capitol riots and subsequent actions of the corrupt, Democrat-led select committee. The National Pulse reported in December of the last year that Swalwell—along with then-Representative Adam Schiff (D-CA)—were identified by the Department of Justice (DOJ) Inspector General as having leaked classified materials to the media to push the Russia hoax narrative against President Donald J. Trump during his first term in office.

“Instead of lowering costs for everyday Americans, House Republicans are once again trying to rewrite history and corrupt our electoral system,” Rep. Jeffries said in a statement, adding: “House Democrats will continue to forcefully and aggressively push back, as we did with Donald Trump’s second impeachment and the work done by the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the United States Capitol.”

Representative Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) will chair the new select subcommittee, formed under the House Judiciary Committee. During the previous Congress, Loudermilk oversaw House Republican-led inquiries into the riots and the defunct January 6 Select Committee initiated under former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).

Joining Swalwell as Democratic members of the new select subcommittee are Reps. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) and Jared Moskowitz (D-FL). While Crockett is known for being a highly partisan Democrat and prone to ostentatious political stunts, Moskowitz does have a track record of bipartisan legislating. Notably, while Democrats are allowed the seats on the committee, the picks must receive final approval from House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA).

Speaker Johnson has yet to name the three House Republicans who will join Chairman Loudermilk on the select subcommittee, though the selections are expected to be announced soon. Under its authorizing resolution, the committee is charged with releasing a final report on its findings by the end of next year.

The comments were made in a late Sunday night post on Truth Social, following last Thursday’s largest single-site enforcement operation in Department of Homeland Security (DHS) history, which detained hundreds of South Korean illegal immigrant workers at a Hyundai battery plant under construction near Savannah, Georgia.

“Following the Immigration Enforcement Operation on the Hyundai Battery Plant in Georgia, I am hereby calling on all Foreign Companies investing in the United States to please respect our Nation’s Immigration Laws,” Trump wrote, continuing: “Your Investments are welcome, and we encourage you to LEGALLY bring your very smart people, with great technical talent, to build World Class products, and we will make it quickly and legally possible for you to do so. What we ask in return is that you hire and train American Workers.”

“Together, we will all work hard to make our Nation not only productive, but closer in unity than ever before,” the America First leader added.

The operation resulted in the detention of 475 workers, most of whom were South Korean nationals. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials stated that some had entered the country illegally, while others had overstayed visas or violated visa waiver conditions that prohibited employment. None of the detained workers were charged with crimes, according to Steven Schrank, the lead Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agent in Georgia.

South Korea’s government expressed concern over the detentions, with Foreign Minister Cho Hyun planning to travel to the U.S. to discuss the matter. On Sunday, South Korea announced that more than 300 detained workers would be released and repatriated via charter plane. Kang Hoon-sik, chief of staff for President Lee Jae Myung, confirmed that negotiations with U.S. officials had been finalized.

The incident has raised tensions between Washington and Seoul, coming just months after South Korea committed $350 billion in U.S. investments as part of a broader economic agreement. Trump, speaking to reporters at Joint Base Andrews on Sunday, suggested that the U.S. and South Korea could collaborate to allow their nationals to train American workers for roles in battery and computer manufacturing.

France is plunging into political chaos again, with Prime Minister François Bayrou losing a confidence vote in the National Assembly. Having called the vote himself to galvanize backing for his 2026 budget plan, Bayrou’s government was instead brought down, 364 to 194.

Bayrou, appointed by President Emmanuel Macron in December, recently voiced his exasperation with France’s fractured political landscape in an interview, complaining: “What’s the point of bringing down the government? These are political groups that not only don’t agree on anything but, far worse than that, are waging open civil war against each other.”

The gridlock in the French legislature is a result of far-left and establishment parties attempting to shut out the populist National Rally party, led by Marine Le Pen, despite the fact that they became the single-largest party in the National Assembly after Macron called a snap legislative election last year.

Bayrou must now tender his resignation to Macron, who faces two options: attempting to appoint a successor, who will struggle to maintain a majority in the legislature, or attempting to dissolve the National Assembly and call another early election. Macron is reluctant to call another snap election, considering the last one resulted in the far left and populists overtaking the previous establishment party centered on his Renaissance party, formerly En Marche!

France’s sovereign debt stands at about $3.685 trillion, or nearly 114 percent of GDP. Public spending accounted for approximately 57 percent of GDP last year, driven in part by expansive welfare spending—much of it absorbed by migrants and their descendants.

The National Rally (RN) is now the strongest force in French politics. Some polls suggest that Marine Le Pen’s populists could win a majority if new parliamentary elections are held. Despite being banned from running for office after being convicted in a dubious embezzlement case, Le Pen herself is pushing for fresh elections.

The America First leader announced that he had donated his family Bible to the Museum of the Bible, remarking that the Christian holy book has “[f]or thousands of years… shaped civilization, ethics, art and literature, and it’s brought hope, healing, and transformation to untold millions and millions of lives.”

Peter Navarro, Senior Counselor to President Donald J. Trump for Trade and Manufacturing, filed a request with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit on Sunday night, demanding an explanation from the Department of Justice (DOJ) for its decision to stop defending his conviction for contempt of Congress. Navarro was convicted in 2022 for defying a subpoena from the corrupt former House select committee investigating the January 6 Capitol riots.

In his 13-page filing, Navarro argued that the DOJ’s abrupt withdrawal undermines transparency and fairness in the legal process. The filing also raised concerns about the constitutional implications of prosecuting senior White House advisers for contempt of Congress, particularly regarding executive privilege, immunity, and separation of powers.

Navarro was subpoenaed in 2022 for his role in allegedly attempting to delay Congress’s certification of the 2020 election results. He claimed executive privilege shielded him from testifying, asserting that President Trump had invoked the privilege. However, the trial judge ruled that the privilege did not apply to the January 6 committee’s subpoena, leading to Navarro’s conviction on two counts of contempt of Congress.

After Trump returned to office and Navarro rejoined the White House, federal prosecutors revealed they no longer supported the Biden-era DOJ’s position and suggested appointing an external lawyer to defend the conviction. The Trump administration will move to deport an estimated 300 South Korean illegal immigrants found to be working illegally at a Hyundai Motor Group and LG Energy Solution Ltd. factory construction site in Ellabell, Georgia. The arrests, which took place on Thursday, saw over 500 people detained, including 23 Mexicans in addition to the South Koreans. According to the Trump administration, those detained at the facility—which received $1 billion in U.S. taxpayer funding—either lacked proper immigrant work visas, had expired work visas, or were working despite only holding non-work visas.

The Hyundai immigration raid and arrests sparked a diplomatic row with South Korea’s government, and pushback from pro-illegal immigrant labor advocates like the CATO Institute, who argue it is economically desirable to replace American workers with cheap foreign labor. Trump White House Border Czar Tom Homan emphasized the economic impact of such hiring practices, stating, “These companies that hire illegal aliens, they undercut the competition of paying U.S. citizen salaries.”

Homan also shared his personal experience, saying, “I had to call five different companies before I had a company that guaranteed me a legal workforce. I talked to one company, just a father and son, who laid off 20 citizen employees because they couldn’t afford—they couldn’t win a bid, because the competition were bidding a lot less for a job because they were paying their employees a lot less to work because they’re illegally in the United States.”

The South Korean workers reportedly entered the U.S. using B-1/B-2 tourist/business visas or Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) waivers. Hyundai, a repeat violator of labor rules, is expected to face delays and increased costs as it replaces the deported workers with American labor.
