House Democrats are already laying the groundwork to sabotage former President Donald J. Trump‘s second term in office, seemingly anticipating that he is likely to win the November presidential election. On Tuesday, Democrat lawmakers—led by Representatives Jared Huffman (D-CA) and Jamie Raskin (D-MD)—launched the Stop Project 2025 Task Force.
“We have to mount the resistance in real-time,” Huffman said in an interview following the launch of his anti-Trump group. The Democrat Congressman added: “If we’re caught off guard by it, we’re going to be too late. This time, they’ve figured it out. They’re going to be coming fast and furious.”
At the heart of Huffman and Raskin‘s project is their fear of the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025. Despite their conspiratorial depictions, Project 2025 is just a run-of-the-mill presidential transition blueprint with a bevy of policy proposals that a Trump White House can enact on Day One in government. Project 2025 has, in fact, become a favorite boogeyman among far-left activists, with Huffman and Raskin‘s task force just being the latest over-the-top response.
The Democratic lawmakers plan to hold a series of public events with left-wing think tanks and friendly corporate media between now and election day on November 5 to smear the Heritage Foundation-led presidential transition project. Additionally, the group says they plan to highlight likely Trump White House appointees.
“For people who think something like ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ could never happen here, I think it’s happening in real-time,” Huffman claimed. Additionally, the California Democrat claimed: “I believe we’re really close to having our democracy replaced by a dystopian, right-wing theocracy.”
