California legislation making it a felony to solicit sex acts from minors is facing opposition from leftist activists. They argue the stronger penalties for such solicitation in Senate Bill 1414, put forward by State Senator Shannon Grove, would imprison too many pedophiles from LGBTQ and ethnic minority backgrounds.
“We are particularly concerned that the harsher penalties proposed in this bill will disproportionately impact marginalized communities, especially members of the LGBTQ community who already suffer from systematic biases within the criminal justice system, particularly when it comes to sexually-based offenses,” complained Kellie Walters, representing the Legal Services for Prisoners with Children organization, at a California State Assembly Public Safety Committee hearing.
“LGBTQ people, particularly gay and transgendered individuals, are more likely to be charged with sex offenses… For instance, LGBTQ people are nine times more likely to be charged with sodomy,” Walters said.
Activists oppose California bill giving harsher penalties for soliciting minors for sex, say it will disproportionality harm LGBTQ community and people of color.

ETHNIC MINORITIES.
Isabella Borgeson, representing the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights organization, also complains that “harsher penalties” for pedophiles would “disproportionately impact marginalized communities.” She stressed “black and brown individuals” rather than homosexuals and transgenders.
Borgeson, wearing a mask, argued that “punitive measures” for pedophiles would “perpetuate cycles of incarceration,” recommending investment in “community-based solutions” instead.
In the past year, several high-profile LGBT activists have been linked to child abuse, including Canadian LGBTQ organization chief Sean Gravells. He was arrested on child sex abuse and pornography charges in British Columbia.
Last month, the head of the Maryland Democrat LGBT caucus, Michael Knaapen, was caught sending nude photographs and discussing rape fantasies with a person he believed to be a minor.
