Scientists Sue After Publisher Retracts Papers on Abortion Pill Dangers.

A group of researchers has initiated a legal case against a publisher that retracted several studies on abortion pill risks, claiming the studies were removed due to political motivations.

Ten researchers from the pro-life Charlotte Lozier Institute initiated legal proceedings against Sage Publishing, alleging that Sage violated contract laws in California when the journal withdrew three studies, including two regarding abortion pill risks, earlier this year.

The lawsuit aims to prompt Sage to enter arbitration regarding these retractions, which were implemented in February. Dr. James Studnicki, vice president and director of data analytics at the institute, asserted that the retractions damaged the authors’ reputations and contravened scientific publication ethics.

Sage’s official retraction notice mentioned that an independent review was triggered by a reader’s complaint alleging misleading data and authors’ affiliations with the pro-life Charlotte Lozier Institute.

Dr. Studnicki, who was also removed from the editorial board of Sage’s Health Services Research and Managerial Epidemiology journal months before the retractions, criticized Sage’s actions as politically motivated.

One of the challenged studies, published on November 9, 2021, cited a 500% increase in emergency room visits linked to chemical abortions from 2002-2015, based on Medicaid data.

Another study from May 2022 examined repeated ER visits among women who did not inform their physicians of undergoing chemical abortions. These studies were referenced in federal court decisions about mifepristone’s FDA approval suspension.

Abortion pill dangers were highlighted last month when Democrat presidential candidate Kamala Harris falsely claimed a woman in Georgia died due to an abortion ban but was actually killed as a result of using mifepristone.

Despite the dangers, pharmaceutical retailers like CVS and Walgreens announced earlier this year they would be dispensing the drug.

Appointed to the bench by former President Barack Obama, McConnell’s ruling has drawn extensive criticism from the legal community, as well as confusion from the Trump White House, as it requires the administration to tap a small emergency reserve of around $5.25 billion to cover $8.5 billion in November SNAP benefits.

“I do not want Americans to go hungry. [I] ask the Court to clarify how we can legally fund SNAP as soon as possible. . . . If we are given the appropriate legal direction by the Court, it will BE MY HONOR to provide the funding,” President Donald J. Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social late Friday. This prompted McConnell to issue guidance over the weekend, essentially telling the administration to find the extra funds—though he acknowledged this must be done in accordance with the Administrative Procedure Act. Impossibly, the judge ordered that benefits must begin processing by the end of Monday, and partial payment should be completed by Wednesday.

However, Judge McConnell’s order may not withstand further legal scrutiny from the appellate court or potentially the U.S. Supreme Court. Foremost, the ruling—which strangely takes the form of a “temporary restraining order” despite compelling an action rather than barring it—is universal in application, likely running afoul of a Supreme Court ruling earlier this year that limited such nationwide orders to only class-action lawsuits. In a footnote, the judge offers a weak defense of the order’s nationwide application, simply claiming that “a limited order would not provide complete relief.”

In addition, it appears Judge McConnell only considered the congressional appropriation aspect of the SNAP program and benefit payments during the Senate Democrat-caused government shutdown. The judge failed to consider the issue of the SNAP program itself, which is not currently in existence—in a technical sense—since its congressional authorization lapsed in 2023 and has been temporarily reauthorized through subsequent continuing resolutions (CRs). When Senate Democrats blocked the CR to temporarily fund the government on October 1, they also blocked the underlying SNAP reauthorization.

“Is there money in a contingency fund? Sure, probably. At minimum there’s $3b available through 09/2026. Maybe there’s another $3b available through 09/2027 but none of that necessarily matters,” former Senate Judiciary Committee counsel Mike Fragoso noted in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “You see, the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 was most recently reauthorized in the 2018 Farm Bill. That authorization ran out in 2023 and subsequent CRs have *carried that authorization* for their length. This means that SNAP’s authorization expired with the CR on October 1st. The program is no longer in effect, and with it this entitlement.”

The AfD selected ten nations for scrutiny, namely Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq, Morocco, Algeria, Iran, Nigeria, Somalia, Pakistan, and Georgia, as they have contributed significant refugee populations to Germany. Through PKS data, nationals of these countries have been tallied against victims of crime.

Victim numbers have surged markedly since 2015, aligning with the influx of people from these ten countries into Germany. The fewest cases were reported in 2020 and 2021, mirroring the broader decline in crime rates during the COVID-19 pandemic. Syrians boast the most victims, with 35,668, followed by Afghanistan, with 72,190. All have over 10,000.

In terms of particular crimes, the data indicates that, for instance, Algerian nationals are accused of robbery 12,685 percent more frequently than Germans, with similarly elevated rates for Georgians (3,846 percent higher), Libyans (3,641 percent higher), and Tunisians (3,132 percent higher).

The A1307 road near Huntingdon has also been closed. An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson stated that numerous ambulances, tactical commanders, and critical care teams were dispatched to the site.

Witnesses described chaotic scenes, with one claiming to have seen a man with a large knife and “blood everywhere.” Some passengers reportedly hid in lavatories to escape, while others were trampled during the panic. Another witness told The Mirror newspaper they saw a person “hanging out the train door bleeding.”

Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the event as “deeply concerning,” expressing his thoughts for those affected and thanking the emergency services for their swift response.

Train services in the area have been severely disrupted, with LNER confirming that all lines around Huntingdon station are blocked and disruption expected to last until the end of the day.

That places Labour ten points behind Reform and only a single point ahead of the Greens, who, under socialist leader Zach Polanski, are drawing increasing numbers of disillusioned Labour voters.

Farage’s rise follows a series of developments that have propelled Reform, formerly the Brexit Party, to a serious electoral contender. A September poll projected that Reform could win as many as 311 seats in the House of Commons, placing it within reach of an outright majority. The party has also attracted numerous defections from the formerly governing Conservatives, including 20 local politicians who switched allegiance during the Tory conference earlier this month.

Texas Halts Business Program Excluding White Males.

Acting Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock has halted new and renewed certifications under the state’s Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) program, citing concerns that the initiative may discriminate on the basis of race. Under the HUB program, nearly 300 state agencies were required to make a “good faith” effort to include certified businesses in procurement opportunities, including construction, commodities, and service contracts. As of 2025, more than 21 percent of certified firms were involved in state contracts, receiving over $4 billion in awards. Hancock said he supports fair competition but questioned the criteria used to determine eligibility. “How do we audit that somebody was economically discriminated against? How do we verify the information of somebody being economically discriminated against? It’s got to be more than just skin color,” he said. He added that contracts should be awarded “on merit rather than race or ethnicity.”

The move follows an executive order issued by Governor Greg Abbott (R) earlier this year prohibiting race- and sex-based preferences in the distribution of government benefits or opportunities. Abbott said the order was necessary to ensure equality in state hiring and contracting practices. Hancock echoed those sentiments, stating that “Texans deserve a level playing field where government contracts are earned by performance and best value—nothing more, nothing less.”

The suspension has sparked debate over the future of programs designed to support minority- and women-owned businesses. Supporters of the HUB initiative argue that it helps address historical disparities in access to public contracting, while critics, including Hancock, say such programs may violate anti-discrimination laws by excluding white-owned firms.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) says that it has shaved nine months off the timeline for two major projects addressing the “Tijuana River Sewage Crisis.” This issue has plagued the San Diego area for decades, with cross-border sewage from Tijuana, Mexico, impacting tourism, Navy SEAL training waters, and local residents.

“The Trump Administration is doing everything in its power to urgently and permanently deliver the 100% solution to the Tijuana River Sewage Crisis that the residents of Southern California have demanded for decades,” EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin stated on Thursday.

The sewage crisis stems from outdated wastewater infrastructure in Tijuana, which has struggled to keep up with the city’s population growth—an increase of approximately 188 percent from 1990 to 2025. The EPA completed a 100-day review of all related projects and announced significant progress in cutting red tape and streamlining efforts.

Zeldin highlighted the importance of collaboration between the U.S. and Mexico, referencing the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in July with Mexican officials. This agreement ensures that all related projects, including the rehabilitation of Pump Station 1 and reconstruction of the Tijuana River Gates, will be completed by December 31, 2027.

“Through intensive collaboration, we were able to cut through red tape, identify efficiencies, and overcome bureaucratic hurdles. While substantial construction work lies ahead, this represents a crucial step in our commitment to protect American communities from cross-border pollution,” Zeldin added.

The South African government has condemned the Trump administration’s decision to prioritize refugee applications from white Afrikaners, dismissing claims of a “white genocide.” Officials in Pretoria claim that South Africa’s crime statistics do not show white citizens being disproportionately targeted—although South African statistics intentionally obscure the racial background of criminals and their victims—and branded the U.S. policy politically motivated and racially divisive.

The criticism follows an announcement by the Trump administration setting America’s annual refugee cap at 7,500, the lowest on record, and indicating that most of those places will likely go to Afrikaners. President Donald J. Trump had previously offered refugee status to Afrikaners after South African President Cyril Ramaphosa signed a law permitting the expropriation of land without compensation, widely perceived as an attempt to dispossess Afrikaner farmers.

In a tense Oval Office meeting earlier this year, Trump confronted Ramaphosa, noting that white farmers were being killed and persecuted. Notably, Julius Malema, who leads the fourth-largest party in South Africa’s multi-party legislature, has led packed stadiums in chants of “Kill the Boer (Afrikaner), the farmer,” and warned he is “not calling for the slaughtering of white people, at least for now,” and stressing that he will not rule out doing so in the future.
