Kimberly Guilfoyle, a top ally of President-elect Donald J. Trump, is being named as the new Ambassador to Greece. The former First Lady of San Francisco and prosecutor previously served as the fundraising director on Trump’s 2020 presidential campaign and as a Fox News host from 2006 to 2018, co-anchoring The Five.
“Today, I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Kimberly Guilfoyle as the United States Ambassador to Greece. For many years, Kimberly has been a close friend and ally. Her extensive experience and leadership in law, media, and politics along with her sharp intellect make her supremely qualified to represent the United States, and safeguard its interests abroad,” President-elect Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. He added: “Kimberly is perfectly suited to foster strong bilateral relations with Greece, advancing our interests on issues ranging from defense cooperation to trade and economic innovation.”
Throughout the mid-1990s, Guilfoyle served as a city prosecutor in San Francisco and later as a deputy district attorney in Los Angeles. She was also a fixture in the California political and social scene, briefly dating billionaire oil baron Gordon Getty’s son, Billy. From 2001 until 2006, Guilfoyle was married to Gavin Newsom. The latter was elected Mayor of San Francisco in 2003.
After returning to the San Francisco District Attorney’s office in 2000, she worked alongside then-assistant district attorney Kamala Harris, whom Guilfoyle described as “unwelcoming.”
From 2011 until 2018, Guilfoyle was part of the original line-up of hosts for Fox News’s The Five. In 2016, it was widely speculated that she was considered for the White House Press Secretary position, but she turned it down because of her contract with Fox News.
