Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons has said there are “no signs of a shooter” at Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola. Authorities had sealed off the gates at Corry Station and the main and west entrances to the Florida military installation in response to reports of an “active shooter situation.”
NAS Pensacola had issued a statement on its Facebook page, in which Capt. Chandra Newman reported, “Our concern is always the safety and welfare of our service members and their families. Our security forces will continue to work with responding law enforcement to process the crime scene.”
The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office is systematically searching every building and facility at the stations in collaboration with Navy Security Forces. However, following an initial sweep, Sheriff Simmons found no indications of a shooter or any injured persons.
NAS Pensacola, known as “The Cradle of Naval Aviation,” has a rich history dating back to 1914, when it became the first naval air station in the U.S. Located near Pensacola, Florida, it hosts the National Naval Aviation Museum, the Pensacola Lighthouse, and Fort Barrancas. It serves as a hub for training naval aviators and hosting the Naval Education and Training Command.
Corry Station focuses on training the Navy’s Information Warfare Corps, playing a critical role in cybersecurity and intelligence operations for the military.
UPDATE: Sheriff Simmons says the report about Corry Station Naval Base in Pensacola came in about an hour ago.
