Podcaster and Ultimate Fight Championship (UFC) commentator Joe Rogan says he won’t travel to Montreal, Canada, in May for UFC 315: Muhammad vs Della Maddalena, stating that he no longer visits America’s northern neighbor. Rogan, who often provides live commentary at UFC events, cited Canada‘s “terrible” liberal government as the reason he won’t attend the Montreal fight. However, he added that “the Canadian people are awesome.”
“I won’t be there. I don’t go to Canada anymore,” Rogan said, wryly adding: “I’d rather go to Russia.”
When one of Rogan’s guests joked that the podcaster would visit Canada once it becomes the 51st U.S. state, he quickly replied: “That’s never going to happen.”
“That’s so crazy that he asked them to be the 51st state,” Rogan said while laughing. He continued: “I had a conversation with Trump about it. He goes, ‘I started calling him calling him Governor Trudeau just for fun, then a lot of people started saying it’s a good idea… Maybe it is a good idea,” referring to former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
In February, Rogan accused Trudeau of pushing for “legitimate communism,” and in his most recent podcast episode he stated that current Prime Minister Mark Carney is “more of the same.” Last July, the podcast host and fight commentator vowed he wouldn’t travel to Canada while Trudeau was still in charge, arguing the Canadian government had become a “tyranny” and imposed “ridiculous free speech laws.”
“They can come down on you for a lot of things. They seized up the bank accounts for people who were protesting, the truckers. People who were donating to the truckers, they seized their bank accounts,” Rogan said, referring to the 2022 Canadian trucker protests against the country’s COVID-19 vaccine mandates. He added: “It’s not a good place under this administration, at least.”
