PULSE POINTS:
❓What Happened: Hillary Clinton is demanding Democrats start arguments—and potentially fights—with friends, family, and neighbors at Memorial Day cookouts over President Donald J. Trump’s budget plan.
👥 Who’s Involved: Hillary Clinton, Democrats, President Donald J. Trump, and Americans attending cookouts this Memorial Day weekend.
📍 Where & When: Clinton made the demand in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, May 23, 2025.
💬 Key Quote: “I’m giving you a mission for this Memorial Day holiday weekend,” Clinton wrote, explaining: “I want you to talk to two people—friends, neighbors, cookout attendees—about why Trump’s proposed budget would be a disaster for American kids.”
⚠️ Impact: The move highlights the Democratic Party’s continued tone deafness towards American voters who are increasingly tired of liberals politicizing their relationships with friends and family, and using their personal ties as leverage for political ends.
IN FULL:
Former Secretary of State and failed 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton demanded Democrats spoil family cookouts this Memorial Day, pushing the anti-Trump activists to start arguments with their “friends, neighbors, [and] cookout attendees” over President Donald J. Trump’s budget plan working its way through Congress. The former First Lady and wife of former President Bill Clinton described her desire to cause familial and neighborhood strife as a “mission” for her supporters.
“I’m giving you a mission for this Memorial Day holiday weekend,” Clinton wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter). She continued: “I want you to talk to two people—friends, neighbors, cookout attendees—about why Trump’s proposed budget would be a disaster for American kids. We owe the next generation every chance, and this isn’t it.”
Attached to Hillary’s post is an image of Democratic Party talking points that make dubious claims about Trump’s budget and its impact, especially on healthcare programs like Medicaid. Notably, President Trump has been insistent that Medicaid will not be subject to cuts, nor should Americans in need of the healthcare program be barred from accessing it.

Earlier this week, the budget plan—taking the form of a budget reconciliation bill and referred to by Trump as the “One Big, Beautiful Bill”—passed the House of Representatives by a single vote. Congressmen Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Warren Davidson (R-OH) were the only two House Republicans to vote against the measure. Every single House Democrat opposed the budget plan.
One of the more outrageous claims pushed by Clinton in her post on X is that four million children will be thrown off the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). In reality, the provision being referenced by Hillary Clinton is language that would bar immigrants from accessing the program. However, the manager’s amendment used to implement several 11th-hour compromises altered even that language, creating several broad carve-outs for Cubans and others who receive certain special government-issued immigration statuses. This means that Clinton’s data point is likely far from correct.
