IN FULL:
Representative Maxine Waters (D-CA) has insisted there has not, in fact, been any violence in Los Angeles, California, despite injuries to law enforcement officers and widespread property destruction across four days of pro-illegal immigrant riots and disorderly protests.
“Nobody was shot, nobody was killed. Get it in your head!” the 86-year-old Democrat declared during a press conference. “Don’t think that, somehow, because they called out the National Guard, there was violence. There was no violence! I was on the street, I know,” she insisted, adding, “So, first of all, get it straight, and don’t just rely on what you’ve been told on the few incidents that you saw.”
Video footage of incidents uploaded to social media include a large rock being thrown into the windshield of a moving police cruiser from a substantial height, and footage of an officer on foot being struck so hard in the head by a rock that his helmet was knocked off. Buildings have been extensively vandalized in several locations, and some business premises looted. A number of vehicles have also been torched, including Google’s self-driving Waymo taxis, with their damaged electric batteries presenting a toxic threat.
Waters has been present on the streets during the protests, at one point baiting and heckling National Guard troops deployed by President Donald J. Trump to protect U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel from rioters.
“What are you all going to do? Are you going to shoot some kids?” she demands in a recording of the incident. “Are you going to shoot an elected official? If you shoot me, you better shoot straight.”
