Education Sec Calls for More Sanctions Against Faculty Who Celebrated Charlie Kirk’s Assassination.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: Secretary of Education Linda McMahon called for more accountability for faculty members celebrating the assassination of Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Linda McMahon, Charlie Kirk, alleged assassin Tyler Robinson, and various university faculty and students.

📍WHEN & WHERE: Comments made at the Reagan Institute Summit on Education in Washington, following Kirk’s murder on September 10 at Utah Valley University.

💬KEY QUOTE: “I’ve seen some of those college presidents who have fired or suspended teachers or other faculty members that have spoken out really incredibly poorly and celebrated Charlie’s death; I would like to see more of that, quite frankly.” – Linda McMahon.

🎯IMPACT: Kirk’s death has sparked calls for greater accountability and a renewed focus on civil discourse and free speech on campuses.

IN FULL

Secretary of Education Linda McMahon is calling for greater accountability from colleges and universities after several faculty members and administrators were found publicly celebrating the assassination of Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk. Speaking at the Reagan Institute Summit on Education in Washington, McMahon expressed support for institutions that have taken disciplinary action and encouraged others to follow suit.

“I’ve seen some of those college presidents who have fired or suspended teachers or other faculty members that have spoken out really incredibly poorly and celebrated Charlie’s death; I would like to see more of that, quite frankly,” McMahon said.

Her comments come amid a wave of backlash following Kirk’s assassination on September 10 at Utah Valley University during a stop on his American Comeback Tour. The suspect, Tyler Robinson, has been charged with aggravated murder.

In the days after Kirk’s murder, several celebrations by students and teachers drew national attention. McMahon criticized such actions, stating, “That is really, in and of itself, is a crime of personal integrity, when those kinds of things happen.”

McMahon said she hoped Kirk’s death would serve as a catalyst for improving civil discourse and upholding the principle of free speech. “Charlie was a very forthright speaker about his faith, about his beliefs, about his principles. He didn’t shy away from challenging people who had different beliefs… but in a way to ask them to share why they believe what they believed,” she said.

Additional disciplinary actions have been reported across the country. In Texas, over 100 teachers are facing suspension or certification reviews after allegedly celebrating or justifying Kirk’s assassination on social media. Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) stated that the educators could lose their licenses for promoting or glorifying violence.

A U.S. Secret Service agent, Anthony Pough, was placed on leave and had his security clearance revoked after posting remarks applauding Kirk’s death. Meanwhile, The Washington Post fired columnist Karen Attiah over Bluesky posts that the publication said constituted gross misconduct.

H-1B Migrants Are Being Used to Fill DEI Jobs.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: Senator Eric Schmitt (R-MO) has revealed that a number of American companies are abusing the H-1B visa program to fill diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) jobs.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Sen. Eric Schmitt, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), American companies, and H-1B visa applicants.

📍WHEN & WHERE: Schmitt revealed his office’s findings on Thursday, September 25, 2025.

💬KEY QUOTE: “[I]n light of everything we know about DEI, it’s alarming that American employers appear to be importing foreign workers to work in these roles—placing non-Americans in positions where they are tasked with policing the speech and thought of our own citizens.” — Sen. Eric Schmitt

🎯IMPACT: Schmitt is requesting USCIS issue guidance “clarifying that positions relating to DEI… do not qualify as H-1B specialty occupations” and “conduct a focused review of approvals… to identify DEI-tagged cases and take appropriate corrective action.”

IN FULL

United States Senator Eric Schmitt (R-MO) has revealed that a number of American companies are abusing the H-1B visa program to fill diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) jobs. The revelation is especially egregious as some progressive political figures have justified DEI programs and employment as a means to lift up so-called “marginalized” ethnic minority Americans.

“This is outrageous. Some U.S. companies are using H-1B visas to staff their DEI offices,” Sen. Schmitt wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “I’ve reviewed numerous examples of hospitals, universities and other employers hiring foreign H-1B workers as DEI bureaucrats. I’m urging USCIS [U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services] to work with us to fix this.”

The Missouri Republican says his office has obtained and reviewed a number of H-1B visa requests filed by American employers to fill DEI roles. Schmitt notes, “For example, Yale New Haven Health filed Labor Condition Applications (LCA) for H-1B visas for the role of ‘Diversity and Inclusion Specialist’ in 2021.” Other academic institutions, according to the Senator, have filed similar visa requests for DEI positions, including Carnegie Mellon University and Dartmouth College.

However, the H-1B to DEI office pipeline isn’t just isolated to higher academia: “Examples range from large banks and law firms to universities, healthcare systems, and even municipal park districts,” Sen. Schmitt states. “Obviously, DEI positions are plainly non-technical and ideological in nature, and appear to fall outside the ‘specialty occupation’ intent of the H-1B statute.”

“More to the point, in light of everything we know about DEI, it’s alarming that American employers appear to be importing foreign workers to work in these roles—placing non-Americans in positions where they are tasked with policing the speech and thought of our own citizens,” Schmitt warns.

Following his office’s investigation, the Missouri Senator is requesting USCIS issue guidance “clarifying that positions relating to DEI… do not qualify as H-1B specialty occupations” and “provide my office with a full report and a briefing on approved H-1B petitions in DEI-tagged roles for FY2021–FY2024.” Additionally, Schmitt is asking USCIS to “conduct a focused review of approvals over the aforementioned time period to identify DEI-tagged cases and take appropriate corrective action.”

Trump Economy Surges as Consumer Spending Rises, Trade Deficit Shrinks.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: America’s economic resurgence under President Trump continues as Q2 2025 GDP growth is revised up to 3.8 percent, reflecting strong consumer spending, rising incomes, and a narrowing trade gap.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: President Donald J. Trump, White House Deputy Press Secretary Kush Desai, and economic analysts.

📍WHEN & WHERE: Q2 2025, United States.

💬KEY QUOTE: “America’s economic resurgence under President Trump continues: revised data show even stronger real GDP growth of 3.8 percent in Q2 2025 thanks to the Trump agenda of tax cuts, deregulation, tariffs, and energy abundance. And this is just the beginning.” – Kush Desai

🎯IMPACT: The fastest economic growth in nearly two years, increased small business confidence, and a surge in durable goods demand signal a robust U.S. economy powered by private sector growth.

IN FULL

Second-quarter GDP has been revised up to 3.8 percent, after the initial print in July showed GDP at 3.0 percent. Notably, the revised number now puts second-quarter growth significantly higher than the forecasted 2.4 percent by economists surveyed by Bloomberg. The White House, hailing the news, credits the surge in economic development to President Donald J. Trump’s tariff policies, as well as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act’s tax cuts, deregulation, and energy abundance.

“America’s economic resurgence under President Trump continues: revised data show even stronger real GDP growth of 3.8 percent in Q2 2025 thanks to the Trump agenda of tax cuts, deregulation, tariffs, and energy abundance. And this is just the beginning: new data from today also shows core capital goods orders beat expectations, paving the way for robust investment growth in Q3,” White House Deputy Press Secretary Kush Desai said in a statement, adding: “President Trump pledged to Make America Wealthy Again, and with Joe Biden’s inflation crisis tamed, we are now laying the groundwork for a long-term restoration of American Greatness.”

In addition to the GPD revision, real disposable income growth was also revised up to 3.1 percent, showing significant gains in wages and income. This marks the fastest pace of economic growth in nearly two years.

Meanwhile, manufacturers’ demand for durable goods surged in August, exceeding expectations and signaling confidence in future investments. Factory production increased for goods and services, while government output decreased, highlighting private sector-driven growth.

According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, small business confidence has reached its highest level in nearly a decade. New home sales also soared in August, marking a three-year high and the strongest market for homebuyers in over a decade.

This Ivy League School Is Slashing Over a Hundred Jobs After Trump Admin Settlement.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: Brown University announced it will lay off 48 employees and eliminate 55 unfilled positions as part of a $15 million cost reduction effort.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Brown University, its academic and administrative departments, and former student Alex Shieh.

📍WHEN & WHERE: Announced Monday, measures will impact departments across the university’s campus in Providence, Rhode Island.

💬KEY QUOTE: “In recent years, Ivy League colleges have morphed into a bloated ‘educational industrial complex’ run by self-dealing administrators who charge families record tuition and divert the money to layers of staff that add little to the classroom.” – Alex Shieh

🎯IMPACT: The layoffs and budget cuts aim to address a $30 million budget deficit for fiscal year 2026, while sparking broader conversations about administrative spending in higher education.

IN FULL

Brown University announced this week that it is drastically scaling back staff and operating expenses after reaching a settlement agreement with the Trump administration in July. Following the agreement requiring Brown to pay $50 million to state workforce development programs and other public investments, the Ivy League university says it will now lay off nearly 50 employees, eliminate 55 unfilled positions, and reduce overhead costs, totalling $15 million in savings for the school.

Currently, Brown faces a daunting $30 million budget deficit for the 2026 fiscal year, requiring administrators to enact budget reduction measures. “The implementation of these measures will take place across a range of academic and administrative departments and offices on campus,” a Brown University spokesman announced. University staff impacted by the workforce reduction will be offered severance packages and career transition support.

“One of the most significant decisions in developing the strategy to close this additional $30 million budget gap was to evenly divide budget measures between central University actions to reduce expenses by $15 million and giving academic and administrative units the discretion to decide how and where to reduce spending in their own areas to achieve the remaining $15 million in reductions,” the university said.

Former Brown student Alex Shieh, who made headlines for his criticism of administrative roles, commented on the layoffs, stating, “In recent years, Ivy League colleges have morphed into a bloated ‘educational industrial complex’ run by self-dealing administrators who charge families record tuition and divert the money to layers of staff that add little to the classroom.”

Shieh argued that these administrative positions do not serve students and contribute to soaring tuition costs, which he noted are now as high as $93,064 annually.

Trump DOJ Set to Begin Criminal Investigations Into Soros-Linked Groups.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: A senior Justice Department (DOJ) official directed U.S. attorneys’ offices to draft plans to investigate groups funded by billionaire plutocrat George Soros.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: The DOJ, Attorney General Pam Bondi, U.S. attorneys, President Donald J. Trump, George Soros, the Open Society Foundations, and violent leftist protestors.

📍WHEN & WHERE: The directive was issued on Monday to U.S. attorneys’ offices in California, New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Detroit, and Maryland, among others.

🎯IMPACT: Possible charges including racketeering, arson, wire fraud, and material support for terrorism.

IN FULL

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) is assigning more than a half dozen U.S. attorneys to begin laying the groundwork for investigations into far-left nonprofits and political groups funded by billionaire Democrat mega-donor George Soros, including the Open Society Foundations (OSF). A directive issued to the U.S. attorney’s offices by senior DOJ officials instructs investigators to identify specific individuals and groups who may have violated the law for further investigation—with possible charges including racketeering, arson, wire fraud, and material support for terrorism.

Notably, the move follows a series of posts on Truth Social written by President Donald J. Trump pressing Attorney General Pam Bondi to begin investigations into a number of current and former state and federal officials responsible for the Russia hoax and the Joe Biden-era lawfare campaigns against him. The officials include New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) and Senator Adam Schiff (D-CA). The National Pulse reported on Wednesday that former Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) director James Comey could soon face a grand jury indictment for lying to Congress.

The investigations into Soros-tied organizations and individuals come in the wake of an explosion in far-left political violence in the United States over the past year. On September 10, Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk was assassinated, allegedly by 22-year-old leftist Tyler Robinson, while he spoke at Utah Valley University. Meanwhile, 29-year-old leftist Joshua Jahns opened fire on a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office in Dallas, Texas, on Wednesday, spraying the facility with bullets and causing the death of an illegal immigrant detainee.

Soros-backed groups have been accused of funding violent anti-ICE demonstrations, with leftist “protests” in Portland taking the form of a “siege” of an illegal immigrant detention facility. Violent protests have also broken out in Los Angeles and Chicago, with leftist demonstrators attacking federal immigration officials and law enforcement.

Pentagon Requests Trump’s Approval for First Military Execution in Six Decades.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: The Pentagon is preparing to request authorization from President Donald J. Trump to execute Nidal Hasan, the jihadist former Army major convicted of the 2009 Fort Hood shooting.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Nidal Hasan, a former Army psychiatrist, and Department of War Secretary Pete Hegseth.

📍WHEN & WHERE: The attack occurred in 2009 at Fort Hood, Texas, and Hasan has been held on death row at Fort Leavenworth since his 2013 conviction. Hasan’s final appeal of his sentence was rejected in April 2025.

💬KEY QUOTE: “I am 100 percent committed to ensuring the death penalty is carried out for Nidal Hasan,” said Pete Hegseth.

🎯IMPACT: If approved, this would mark the first U.S. military execution in over 60 years, delivering long-awaited justice for the victims and their families.

IN FULL

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth is set to request authorization from President Donald J. Trump to move forward with the execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, the jihadist former Army major convicted of carrying out the 2009 mass shooting at Fort Hood in Texas. According to a senior Department of War official, the execution would be the first carried out by the U.S. military in more than 60 years.

A former Army psychiatrist, Hasan is currently incarcerated at the U.S. Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, for the 2009 attack, which killed 13 people and wounded another 32. Armed with a semi-automatic pistol, Hasan entered Fort Hood’s Soldier Readiness Center and opened fire on service members preparing for deployment.

During his trial, Hasan confessed to the shooting, claiming it was necessary to protect the “Islamic Empire” from American forces. The Pentagon categorized the massacre as an act of “workplace violence,” a decision widely criticized for ignoring the ideological and terrorist motivations behind the attack.

In 2013, a military jury convicted Hasan and sentenced him to death. After years of appeals, Hasan’s final legal challenge was rejected in April 2025, clearing the way for execution.

“I am 100 percent committed to ensuring the death penalty is carried out for Nidal Hasan,” Department of War Secretary Pete Hegseth said. “This savage terrorist deserves the harshest lawful punishment for his 2009 mass shooting at Fort Hood. The victims and survivors deserve justice without delays.”

FBI: Dallas Sniper Researched Charlie Kirk Assassination, Wanted to Strike ‘Real Terror’ Into ICE Agents.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: A sniper who opened fire on a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Dallas, Texas, on Wednesday researched the assassination of Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk and apps that track ICE agents, and left notes outlining his desire to strike “real terror” into immigration enforcement personnel.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: The sniper, who fatally shot himself, has been identified as Joshua Jahns; Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel updated the public on the case on Thursday.

📍WHEN & WHERE: The shooting occurred on September 24 at an ICE facility in Dallas, Texas; Patel updated the public on X (formerly Twitter) the following morning.

💬KEY QUOTE: “Hopefully this will give ICE agents real terror, to think, ‘is there a sniper with AP rounds on that roof?'” – Handwritten note by the perpetrator.

🎯IMPACT: The details revealed by Patel indicate a high degree of pre-attack planning and raise concerns about the ongoing safety of ICE agents.

IN FULL

Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel has updated the public on Joshua Jahns, the sniper who opened fire on a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Dallas, Texas, on Wednesday.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Patel detailed how Jahns, who fatally shot himself after the attack, “downloaded a document titled ‘Dallas County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management’ containing a list of DHS facilities,” and “searched apps that tracked the presence of ICE agents.”

The sniper, who scrawled “Anti-ICE” on his ammunition but only managed to hit migrants detained by ICE rather than ICE personnel, likely in error, also made “multiple searches” for videos of Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk being shot and killed at Utah Valley University, allegedly by radical leftist Tyler Robinosn.

Patel also revealed that a “handwritten note found at the scene read, ‘Hopefully this will give ICE agents real terror, to think, ‘is there a sniper with AP rounds on that roof?'” He added: “This evidence suggests a significant level of pre-attack planning.”

Federal Judge Finds Trump’s Firing of Inspectors General Unlawful—But Still Upholds Dismissals.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: A federal judge ruled that President Donald J. Trump violated a law requiring 30 days’ notice to Congress before firing inspectors general, but upheld the dismissals.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: President Donald Trump, U.S. District Court Judge Ana Reyes, and eight former inspectors general.

📍WHEN & WHERE: The ruling was issued on Wednesday by the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

💬KEY QUOTE: “President Trump violated the [Inspectors General Act]. That much is obvious. And Plaintiffs raise compelling arguments that the violation must be remedied through reinstatement to their positions,” wrote Judge Ana Reyes.

🎯IMPACT: The inspectors general remain dismissed, but Judge Reyes has yet to rule on whether they should receive back pay.

IN FULL

U.S. District Court Judge Ana Reyes, a Joe Biden appointee, ruled that President Donald J. Trump violated the Inspectors General Act by failing to provide Congress with a 30-day notice before firing inspectors general. Despite this violation, Reyes upheld the dismissals, citing a lack of irreparable harm to the plaintiffs.

The lawsuit was brought by eight of the 17 inspectors general dismissed by Trump earlier this year. Reyes stated in her decision, “President Trump violated the [Inspectors General Act]. That much is obvious. And Plaintiffs raise compelling arguments that the violation must be remedied through reinstatement to their positions.”

However, Reyes noted that under established case law, the plaintiffs failed to demonstrate irreparable harm. She added, “Even assuming that the IGA comports with Article II, Plaintiffs’ inability to perform their duties for 30 days is not irreparable harm. Moreover, if the IGs were reinstated, the President could lawfully remove them after 30 days by providing the required notice and rationale to Congress.”

The judge denied the request for an injunction to reinstate the inspectors general. However, Reyes has not yet ruled on whether the plaintiffs should receive back pay, requesting additional briefings on the matter.

DATA: What Is Driving the Youth Religious Revival in the UK?

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: New YouGov data shows that 37 percent of people in Britain between the ages of 18 and 24 say they believe in God, a significant uptick from August 2021, when the same demographic reported that only 16 percent believed in God.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: 18 to 24-year-olds in the United Kingdom.

📍WHEN & WHERE: The data covers Britain over multiple years and was released late last month.

🎯IMPACT: When coupled with migration data, the polling suggests that the increase in faith is being driven—at least in part—by the government’s mass migration policies.

IN FULL

Faith in God among young people in the United Kingdom is seeing a revival. New August data from YouGov shows that 37 percent of Britons between the ages of 18 and 24 say they believe in God, a significant uptick from August 2021, when the same demographic reported that only 16 percent believed in God.

While some have interpreted the YouGov data to signal a Christian religious revival in the United Kingdom—some polling indeed shows a 56 percent increase in adult church attendance compared to 2018—a closer look at the data for demographic groups over the age of 25 shows modest declines in belief in God. When coupled with migration data, this suggests that the increase in faith is being driven—at least in part—by the government’s mass migration policies.

Notably, YouGov does not break down its data by religion, such as Christianity, Islam, and Hinduism, further muddying the waters about what is driving the increase in “faith” generally. However, data from The Migration Observatory at the University of Oxford fills in some of the gaps.

“Most migrants in the UK are between the ages of 20 and 60. Around 72 [percent] of the foreign-born population was in this group, according to data from the 2021/22 Census,” the Oxford group writes, adding: “In contrast, the share among those born in the UK was 49 [percent]. Migrants were also less likely to be in their childhood or retirement years.”

Additionally, Pew Research data shows that roughly 43 percent of regular migrants to the United Kingdom—excluding refugees—are adherents of Islam. The combined numbers of young migrants, along with the large percentage of migrants identifying as Muslims, suggest the revival of faith in God among youth is being driven in large part by demographic changes—mainly by young, Muslim migrants.

Trump White House Tells Agencies to Get Ready for Mass Firings.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: The White House directed federal agencies to prepare for potential mass firings as a government shutdown looms.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: President Donald J. Trump’s administration, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), U.S. federal agencies, and congressional Democrats.

📍WHEN & WHERE: The memo was sent on Wednesday, ahead of a fiscal deadline on September 30, 2025.

💬KEY QUOTE: “Programs that did not benefit from an infusion of mandatory appropriations will bear the brunt of a shutdown,” the memo stated.

🎯IMPACT: Non-essential operations could halt, affecting hundreds of thousands of civil servants who may be temporarily left without pay.

IN FULL

The White House has instructed U.S. federal agencies to brace for mass firings as a government shutdown looms next week. This directive originated from a memo by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).

Unlike previous shutdowns, the Trump administration plans to go beyond temporary furloughs. Agencies have been told to target programs that are not legally mandated to continue, as outlined in the memo sent to media on Wednesday.

The memo emphasized that programs lacking mandatory appropriations will face significant impacts. Agencies must submit their staff reduction plans and notify employees accordingly.

This situation arises from ongoing disputes between the Trump administration and congressional Democrats over federal funding, with a fiscal deadline approaching at midnight on September 30. Democrats recently rejected a stopgap funding bill passed by the Republican-controlled House.

“After reviewing the details of the unserious and ridiculous demands being made by the Minority Radical Left Democrats in return for their Votes to keep our thriving Country open, I have decided that no meeting with their Congressional Leaders could possibly be productive,” President Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform on Wednesday.

“They are threatening to shut down the Government of the United States unless they can have over $1 Trillion Dollars in new spending to continue free healthcare for Illegal Aliens (A monumental cost!), force Taxpayers to fund Transgender surgery for minors, have dead people on the Medicaid roles, allow Illegal Alien Criminals to steal Billions of Dollars in American Taxpayer Benefits, try to force our Country to again open our Borders to Criminals and to the World, allow men to play in women’s sports, and essentially create Transgender operations for everybody,” he contiued, stressing: “They must do their job! Otherwise, it will just be another long and brutal slog through their radicalized quicksand.”

DHS Reveals Biden Released Illegal Immigrant Now Accused of Concrete Burial Murder.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: The former Biden government released an illegal immigrant into the U.S. who is now accused of murdering a man in Chicago, Illinois, and burying the body in concrete.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Jose Javier Coronado-Meza, Gregori Arias, and federal officials under the former Biden government.

📍WHEN & WHERE: The murder occurred in Chicago, Illinois, on June 22, 2025. Coronado-Meza was released from federal custody in April 2024.

💬KEY QUOTE: “This sick, depraved criminal alien—Jose Javier Coronado-Meza—should have never been in our country in the first place, but the Biden administration chose to allow him to roam free on American streets.” – Tricia McLaughlin, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Assistant Secretary

🎯IMPACT: Coronado-Meza remains in Cook County Jail, but Chicago’s sanctuary city law may prevent U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) detainer from being honored.

IN FULL

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has disclosed that the former Biden government released an illegal immigrant, Jose Javier Coronado-Meza, who is now accused of murdering 31-year-old Gregori Arias in Chicago, Illinois, on June 22, 2025. Coronado-Meza, a 25-year-old Venezuelan national, allegedly buried Arias’s corpse in concrete at an unspecified construction site.

According to DHS officials, Coronado-Meza, who had a final order of deportation from a federal immigration judge, was released from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody in April 2024. DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin blasted the former Biden government’s decision, vowing, “We will not allow sanctuary politicians to put the lives of Americans at risk.”

Coronado-Meza initially crossed the U.S.-Mexico border near Laredo, Texas, in September 2023 and was deported shortly thereafter. However, he re-entered the United States a month later, was detained, and spent over 160 days in custody at the Stewart Detention Center in Georgia. Despite a judge’s deportation order in December 2023, he was released by federal authorities several months later.

Currently, Coronado-Meza is being held at the Cook County Jail. ICE has lodged a detainer against him, yet Chicago’s sanctuary city policies are likely to prevent local authorities from honoring it, which could lead to further public safety risks.
