Public health experts are acknowledging that some COVID-19 vaccines could be to blame for the global rise in excess deaths since the pandemic. Mortality data from 47 Western nations, compiled by researchers in the Netherlands, shows that deaths in those countries have exceeded projections by three million since 2020. Despite the now wide availability of vaccines for COVID-19 and its variants, excess deaths are continuing to rise.
“Although Covid-19 vaccines were provided to guard civilians from suffering morbidity and mortality by the Covid-19 virus, suspected adverse events have been documented as well,” the Dutch researchers wrote in the BMJ Public Health journal. They continued: “Both medical professionals and citizens have reported serious injuries and deaths following vaccination to various official databases in the Western World.”
“During the pandemic, it was emphasized by politicians and the media on a daily basis that every COVID-19 death mattered and every life deserved protection through containment measures and COVID-19 vaccines. In the aftermath of the pandemic, the same moral should apply,” the researchers concluded, noting that the excess death figures are “unprecedented.” The authors stated that their study has “raised serious concerns” about declining global health and are calling on governments to investigate the cause, which they say could include side effects from the vaccines.
In addition to the possibility of vaccine harm, the researchers also noted that measures like lockdowns, closing public transit, rationing healthcare, and economic constraints have likely had a negative impact on the long-term health of people around the globe.
