Senator JD Vance manhandled the corporate media this weekend, appearing on ABC, CBS, and CNN in an unprecedented messaging blitz that has silenced detractors. Vance used his platforms to discuss key policy issues, batting away surface-level critiques from liberal news anchors in the process.
The appearances were markedly different from those of his Democratic VP nominee counterpart, Tim Walz, who refused to give interviews this weekend. Instead, he chose to hunker down in the face of several embarrassing stories about his stolen valor, his coaching history, and his far-left policies.
Vance’s extended interview with ABC News’s Jonathan Karl aired in full. In it, he outlined plans for deportations and defended his support for family voting. During the ABC interview, Vance addressed previous remarks about granting additional votes to parents based on their number of children.
The Republican VP pick got into the weeds on President Donald J. Trump’s immigration policy, emphasizing a “sequential approach” to deportations. He suggested starting with the deportation of violent criminals and recommended making it tougher to hire illegal labor.
In an interview with CBS’ “Face the Nation” hosted by Margaret Brennan, Vance was pressed about Trump’s comments on the significance of vice-presidential picks. Vance agreed with Trump, stating that most voters base their decisions on the presidential nominees rather than their running mates.
Walz did not make media appearances on Sunday, reflecting major issues within the Harris campaign concerning media transparency. Despite being the Democratic nominee for president, Harris has not conducted a single formal interview or held a press conference in weeks. She has promised to do an interview “before the end of the month.”
