A survey conducted from September 27-30 by SSRS and Verasight on behalf of CNN shows a significant increase in voters who associate Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris with “lies” or “lying.”
The number of voters hearing about her in the context of immigration and the economy is also rising. This could be a function of her visiting the southern border and giving a speech on economic policy recently. Still, it is likely bad news overall, as former President Donald J. Trump is viewed more favorably than her on both immigration and the economy.
The share of Americans discussing Harris has declined weekly since her debate with Trump in early September. Furthermore, the tone of conversation regarding Harris has turned increasingly negative. In the latest data, “lie” was the fourth-most cited word associated with Harris, alongside “border,” “polls,” and “campaign.”
Voters who associate Harris with lying has doubled from just three percent before the Democratic convention, reaching a high of nine percent after her sole presidential debate.
“Kamala says nothing,” wrote one survey respondent highlighted by CNN. “She uses a bunch of words that make no sense. She says she will close the border, but that is a lie to get elected. Everything she promises are lies.”
Some of Harris’s pro-immigration supporters actually share this sentiment, predicting that her tougher rhetoric on border control will evaporate once the election is over.
During her attempt to secure the Democratic nomination for the 2020 election, she embraced a range of extreme left views on immigration, including decriminalizing illegal border crossings, defunding U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and taxpayer-funded transgender surgeries for illegal aliens.
