Has Joe Biden Been the Most AWOL President Ever?

President Joe Biden has taken an astounding 532 days of vacation away from the White House as President, outpacing any of his predecessors, The National Pulse can report.

The 82-year-old Democrat has been absent from the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C., for about 40 percent of his presidency, opting to spend his time at his Delaware beach house or the luxurious homes of powerful Democratic Party donors around the country.

The National Pulse previously reported that as of May of this year, Biden had traveled to his Delaware beach house 100 times since taking office. When not on the Delaware coast, Biden has vacationed at the homes of some of the Democratic Party’s wealthiest donors. The Biden family rang in the New Year in January 2024 by spending a week at the luxurious St. Croix villa of Bill and Connie Neville—tech and business moguls with interests in national media, foreign yacht sales, and venture capital investing. Biden and his family also spent a week at the Neville’s Caribbean estate in 2022 as well.

While past presidents have seen their time away from the White House fluctuate year-to-year during their presidency, Biden has consistently spent around 40 percent of his time away from Washington, D.C. In 2023, The National Pulse reported that Biden had spent 39 percent of his presidency on vacation.

Biden spent over a week at Tom Steyer’s home in Lake Tahoe in August 2023, with most of his time occupied by pilates classes. The president only returned to official duties for a single day when he traveled to the Hawaiian island of Maui to save face after his government offered almost no public comment or support in the three weeks since wildfires ravaged the communities there.

In addition, the liberal attitude toward the Democratic president’s White House work schedule also extends to staff and government employees. In 2023, the White House communications team called 42 “brunch lids” and 39 “lunch lids”—meaning there would be no more scheduled public comments or events for the President for the remainder of the day. According to a new report, government workers appear to be following Biden’s lead, with just six percent working from their actual offices.

In the grand scheme of the American presidency, Joe Biden appears to have been the most AWOL president in modern history. But then again, looking at his record, perhaps it was better for American when he wasn’t at the helm.
