Here’s the Country With the Highest Property Taxes.

A new analysis shows that the highest property taxes of any developed country can be found in the United Kingdom, as it struggles to meet housing demand due to unprecedented levels of mass migration. Analysis by tax and software firm Ryan indicates that British property taxes, including council tax, business rates, and stamp duty, constitute 3.7 percent of its gross domestic product (GDP) for the 2023/24 tax year.

This surpasses Luxembourg and France, both at 3.5 percent and Canada, at 3.4 percent. Despite a 0.3 percentage point decrease from the previous year, the British property tax burden remains higher than the 2.7 percent average within the G7.

With the new tax year commencing in April, property taxes are set to rise again. Council tax bills, which fund municipal governments, will increase by five percent for a third consecutive year.

Additionally, first-time homebuyers in England and Northern Ireland will face less generous stamp duty relief next month, as exemptions will only apply to properties below $388k. Businesses in retail, leisure, and hospitality will contend with reduced business rate discounts, shifting from 75 percent to 40 percent, following last year’s budget adjustments by the leftist Labour Party government.

The high costs come as the United Kingdom struggles to build enough homes for its growing population, which has been almost entirely driven by mass migration in recent years. Labour has also scrapped plans to prioritize native Britons for public housing, which is heavily subsidized by taxpayers.

Court Blocks GOP Redistricting Reforms to Preserve Black ‘Voting Power.’

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: Judges for the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against Louisiana’s request to enforce a congressional redistricting map, alleging it is an unconstitutional racial gerrymander.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, Louisiana’s Republican-majority legislature, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), and other plaintiffs.

📍WHEN & WHERE: The ruling was issued recently, and the case centers on Louisiana’s congressional map drawn after the 2020 census.

💬KEY QUOTE: “There is no legal basis for this proposition, and the state offers no evidence that conditions in Louisiana have changed,” the court stated.

🎯IMPACT: The ruling is a temporary win for the ACLU and plaintiffs, with the Supreme Court expected to issue the final decision.

IN FULL

The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals has denied Louisiana‘s request to enforce its congressional redistricting map, initially passed by the Republican-majority legislature in 2022. Judges ruled the map violated Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act by diluting the votes of black residents through practices described as “packing” and “cracking” black voters, undermining their voting power.

Notably, 83 percent of black voters nationwide backed Democrat candidate Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.

The court rejected Louisiana’s argument that race-based remedies are no longer necessary, stating, “There is no legal basis for this proposition, and the state offers no evidence that conditions in Louisiana have changed.” One judge issued a stay before the decision could take effect, though the Supreme Court had already stayed the map earlier in the year.

The Supreme Court is also currently reviewing the case in Louisiana v. Callais and has requested additional arguments from both sides. The focus remains on whether Louisiana’s redistricting efforts were narrowly tailored to meet constitutional requirements. Justices are expected to weigh in further during the fall term.

The litigation comes amid broader redistricting battles across the country, with both Republican- and Democrat-led states revising their maps ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. States like Texas and California are engaged in legal and political fights over their congressional maps, and the outcomes of these disputes could significantly impact the balance of power in Congress during the next election cycle.

JFK’s Grandson Targets Melania Trump in Crossdressing Video Rant.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: Jack Schlossberg, grandson of John F. Kennedy, mocked Melania Trump in an Instagram video while wearing a blonde wig and imitating her voice.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Jack Schlossberg, Melania Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and social media users responding to the video.

📍WHEN & WHERE: The video was posted on Instagram on Sunday, following Melania Trump’s recent letter to Vladimir Putin.

💬KEY QUOTE: “This person needs to be far, far away from America’s 250 commission,” a social media user commented in response to the video.

🎯IMPACT: The video sparked backlash on social media, with users criticizing Schlossberg for his disrespectful portrayal of the First Lady.

IN FULL

Jack Schlossberg, the grandson of the late President John F. Kennedy, caused a stir on social media after posting an Instagram video mocking First Lady Melania Trump. Wearing a blonde wig, Schlossberg imitated the First Lady’s voice in a video that targeted her recent letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In the letter, Melania Trump urged Putin to end the violence in Ukraine and protect the innocence of children affected by the war. Schlossberg’s video took aim at this gesture, and social media users were quick to condemn his actions, calling him “disrespectful” and “unhinged.”

One user commented, “What a complete nutter,” while another remarked that “This person needs to be far, far away from America’s 250 Commission.”

Schlossberg has previously opposed Republican efforts to rename part of the Kennedy Center after Melania Trump. In a prior post, he cited a 1983 federal law to argue against the move, stating, “Plain reading of the statute makes clear — YOU CANT DO THAT.” He also tagged President Donald J. Trump and Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) in his post.

Hillary: SCOTUS Is Coming for Gay Marriage.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: Failed Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton predicted that the U.S. Supreme Court would overturn same-sex marriage and urged homosexual couples to get married while they still can.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Hillary Clinton, the U.S. Supreme Court, and homosexuals.

📍WHEN & WHERE: Clinton shared her prediction during an interview with Jessica Tarlov.

💬KEY QUOTE: “My prediction is they will do to gay marriage what they did to abortion. They will send it back to the states.” – Hillary Clinton

🎯IMPACT: If the Obergefell v. Hodges ruling on same-sex marriage is overturned, state bans on same-sex marriage could be reinstated, similar to the aftermath of Roe v. Wade‘s reversal.

IN FULL

Hillary Clinton has expressed fear that the U.S. Supreme Court could overturn same-sex marriage, encouraging homosexual couples to marry while the opportunity remains. Speaking with Jessica Tarlov in an interview, she raised the high court’s recent decision to overturn the Roe v. Wade decision on abortion.

“It took 50 years to overturn Roe v. Wade,” Clinton noted, adding: “The Supreme Court will hear a case about gay marriage. My prediction is they will do to gay marriage what they did to abortion. They will send it back to the states.”

Should the court reverse the Obergefell v. Hodges ruling on same-sex marriage, the Respect for Marriage Act, signed into law by President Joe Biden in 2022, ensures federal recognition of same-sex marriages and requires states to recognize marriages performed in other states. However, the law does not mandate that states allow same-sex marriages, potentially allowing state bans to return.

Clinton further noted, “Anybody in a committed relationship out there in the LGBTQ community, you ought to consider getting married. ’Cause I don’t think they’ll undo existing marriages, but I fear that they will undo the national right.”

The Supreme Court has not indicated plans to revisit same-sex marriage. Still, some justices, including Clarence Thomas, questioned the Obergefell ruling in a concurring opinion following the Roe reversal, suggesting it merits reconsideration.

Notably, Kim Davis, the former Kentucky clerk who became widely known in 2015 after refusing to issue same-sex marriage licenses due to her Christian faith, has already filed a petition arguing that the First Amendment’s protection of religious freedom should have shielded her from personal liability in denying the licenses.

Germany Doesn’t Want to Send Troops to Ukraine.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul expressed doubts about sending German soldiers to Ukraine as part of Western security guarantees against possible future Russian aggression.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul and Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

📍WHEN & WHERE: Comments made during the Table.Today podcast ahead of a White House summit involving Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders.

💬KEY QUOTE: “That does not mean we cannot support Ukraine in other military and technical ways,” Wadephul said.

🎯IMPACT: Germany, the largest, wealthiest European NATO member, still appears reluctant to help guarantee European security, after decades of relying on the American military while acting as one of Russia’s largest energy customers.

IN FULL

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul cast doubt on the notion of sending German soldiers to Ukraine as part of Western security guarantees intended to secure a potential peace deal with Russia, calling the idea a “remote question” and warning it would “most likely overwhelm Germany.” Security guarantees are a key topic at the White House summit between President Donald J. Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and European leaders today, as the American president seeks to mediate a deal that will encourage Ukraine to agree to a ceasefire or broader peace deal with Russia, which may involve some “territorial changes.”

Ahead of the White House summit,  Wadephul said Germany not sending troops “does not mean we cannot support Ukraine in other military and technical ways.” However, Europe’s largest and wealthiest NATO member still appears unwilling to help actively guarantee European security, after relying on the U.S. to perform this role while enriching Russia through extensive energy purchases for decades.

On possible territorial changes in Ukraine, Wadephul said decisions over the country’s borders must rest with Kiev, with concessions only made if credible anti‑aggression guarantees accompany them—despite his own government’s reluctance to provide troops. He described Germany’s role as providing so-called political leadership, claiming: “Chancellor [Friedrich] Merz has succeeded in uniting European nations behind Ukraine, even when their interests differed.”

Germany is pursuing significant budget increases and structural reforms to bolster its military capabilities. In his first major parliamentary speech as Chancellor, Merz declared: “The government will provide all the financial resources that the [German military] needs in order to become the strongest conventional army in Europe.”

Despite these initiatives, public enthusiasm for military engagement remains limited. A poll released earlier this month indicates that over half of Germans would not be willing to fight for their country. Similar sentiments have been reported in other European countries, such as Italy and Britain.

European Leaders Praise Trump for Breaking ‘Deadlock’ With Russia.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte expressed optimism about ending the war in Ukraine, praising President Donald J. Trump for breaking the “deadlock” with Russia alongside other European leaders.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, President Donald J. Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and other European leaders at a White House summit.

📍WHEN & WHERE: August 18, 2025, at the White House.

💬KEY QUOTE: “The fact that you have said I’m willing to participate in security guarantees is a big step, is really a breakthrough, and it makes all the difference.” – Mark Rutte

🎯IMPACT: The discussions focused on security guarantees and the potential for ending the war, with positive remarks from all leaders involved.

IN FULL

NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte expressed optimism about ending the ongoing war in Ukraine during a meeting of European leaders at the White House. The former Dutch prime minister emphasized the importance of making the most out of the current situation, stating, “Let’s make the best out of today and make sure that from today onwards, we get this thing to an end as soon as possible.”

Rutte, speaking alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and various European NATO leaders, thanked President Donald J. Trump for breaking the “deadlock” with Russia by “starting the dialogue” with President Vladimir Putin in Alaska last week.

He highlighted the significance of President Trump’s willingness to participate in security guarantees for Ukraine as part of a peace deal, calling it “a big step” and “really a breakthrough.”

Despite previous friction with Zelensky, Trump described their discussion ahead of the wider meeting with European leaders as “very good.” Zelensky, too, said their meeting “really was the best one, or sorry, maybe the best one will be in the future,” adding that they would “speak more about security guarantees.”

Finnish President Alexander Stubb was among the European leaders to praise President Trump’s efforts, noting that more progress had been made towards peace in the past two weeks “than we have in the past three and a half years.”

Stubb referenced his own country’s clashes with the Soviet Union during the Winter War and Continuation War, which took place amid the Second World War, saying, “We found a solution in 1944, and I’m sure that we’ll be able to find a solution in 2025, too.”

Notably, Finland brought its conflict with the Soviets to an end by making territorial concessions.

Hamas, Israel Reach Deal on Ceasefire & Hostages Pioneered by Trump Envoy.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: Hamas has agreed to a ceasefire-hostage deal with Israel, according to a Hamas official.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Hamas, Israeli officials, Egyptian and Qatari mediators, and President Donald J. Trump’s U.S. Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff.

📍WHEN & WHERE: Discussions have been ongoing in the Middle East.

💬KEY QUOTE: “The movement has handed over its approval to the new proposal presented by the mediators.” – Senior Hamas official Basem Naim

🎯IMPACT: The deal could pave the way for a temporary cessation of violence and the release of detainees, though Israel has yet to respond.

IN FULL

Hamas has consented to a ceasefire and hostage release agreement with Israel, according to a senior Hamas official. The deal closely follows a 60-day ceasefire plan originally put forward by President Donald J. Trump’s Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff.

According to an Egyptian official source, the current deal entails a 60-day ceasefire and the return of half the hostages Hamas holds in Gaza, alongside Israel’s release of a number of Palestinian prisoners. Mediators from Egypt and Qatar have been key in facilitating talks with Hamas to secure this arrangement.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty stated that mediators had been “exerting extensive efforts” to bring the U.S. proposal back to life, with the goal of achieving a temporary halt to hostilities and freeing hostages. Senior Hamas official Basem Naim announced on Facebook, “The movement has handed over its approval to the new proposal presented by the mediators.”

Reports from Arab media suggest Hamas has accepted the proposal with minimal changes. Israeli officials have yet to comment publicly on the agreement. Previous efforts to reach similar deals have often collapsed due to disputes over the terror group’s proposed revisions.

Trump Wants Trialateral Meeting With Putin, Zelensky to End the War.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: President Donald J. Trump says he hopes today’s bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and summit with major European leaders will result in a trilateral meeting between Zelensky, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and himself to negotiate an end to the war between the two Eastern European countries.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: President Donald J. Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and the leaders of the United Kingdom (UK), France, Germany, NATO, and the European Union (EU).

📍WHEN & WHERE: The White House in Washington, D.C. on Monday, August 18, 2025.

💬KEY QUOTE: “If everything works out well today, we’ll have a trilat—and I think there will be a reasonable chance of ending the war when we do that.” — President Donald Trump

🎯IMPACT: President Trump emphasized that any trilateral meeting must be aimed at securing an enduring and lasting peace between Russia and Ukraine.

IN FULL

President Donald J. Trump has said he hopes today’s bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and summit with major European leaders will pave the way for a trilateral meeting between Zelensky, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and himself to negotiate an end to the war between the two Eastern European countries. Zelensky—and the leaders of the United Kingdom, France, Germany, NATO, and the European Union (EU)—gathered for an unprecedented summit at the White House on Monday after President Trump held bilateral discussions with Putin last Friday in what could mark a significant breakthrough towards ending the Ukraine war.

“If everything works out well today, we’ll have a trilat—and I think there will be a reasonable chance of ending the war when we do that,” President Trump said. The America First leader emphasized that any trilateral meeting must be aimed at securing an enduring and lasting peace between Russia and Ukraine.

While the last time Zelensky met with Trump at the White House, the meeting erupted into a diplomatic row, with the Ukrainian leader aggressively arguing with Vice President J.D. Vance on live television, Zelensky appeared far calmer and conciliatory this time. Since their initial rocky start, Trump and Zelensky have held several meetings, including one at the Vatican.

Last Friday, President Trump met with Putin at an American military base in Alaska. The leaders discussed a potential trilateral meeting and possible Russian concessions to end the conflict.

Movement by Russia on its demands and openness to Ukraine receiving security guarantees from the West are believed to have sparked today’s Ukrainian bilateral and European summit in Washington, D.C.

Trump Has Won the Average American $4k in Tax Cuts: Report.

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: President Donald J. Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) will save Americans an average of nearly $4,000 in tax cuts.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: President Donald J. Trump, Congress, the Tax Foundation.

📍WHEN & WHERE: The Tax Foundation released statistics on the OBBBA on August 13.

💬KEY QUOTE: “The OBBBA not only prevents a major tax increase for most filers but introduces new relief aimed at working households.” – Erica York, senior economist at the Tax Foundation

🎯IMPACT: The OBBBA will save Americans thousands of dollars per year, likely boosting spending and stimulating the economy.

IN FULL

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), signed into law by President Donald J. Trump in July, will reduce federal taxes for individual filers by an average of $3,752 in 2026, according to new estimates from the Tax Foundation. The legislation marks the most significant update to federal tax policy since the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), which the America First leader also pioneered.

The OBBBA permanently extends the individual tax cuts first enacted under the TCJA, previously scheduled to expire at the end of 2025. Without this extension, roughly 62 percent of taxpayers would have seen their taxes increase starting in 2026. The law also introduces new tax breaks for individuals and businesses, including deductions for tips and overtime income, a larger standard deduction, and an expanded Child Tax Credit.

“The OBBBA not only prevents a major tax increase for most filers but introduces new relief aimed at working households,” said Erica York, senior economist at the Tax Foundation.

It also maintains 100 percent bonus depreciation for businesses and allows continued full expensing for domestic research and development (R&D) costs. Previously, these changes were slated to be phased out or reduced.

The Tax Foundation projects that the law will support the creation of around 938,000 full-time equivalent jobs over the long term.

The Data Shows Trump Takeover Has Crushed Crime in DC:

PULSE POINTS

WHAT HAPPENED: Federal and local law enforcement agents in Washington, D.C., made 68 arrests on Saturday night, with over 300 arrests since President Donald J. Trump federalized D.C. law enforcement and deployed National Guard troops on August 11. D.C. Police Union data shows significant declines in D.C. crime, particularly carjackings and robberies.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: President Trump, Attorney General Pam Bondi, National Guard troops, and federal agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the D.C. Police Union, and D.C. residents.

📍WHEN & WHERE: Washington, D.C., Saturday night, with ongoing efforts since August 11.

💬KEY QUOTE: “Just last night, our federal and D.C. law enforcement partners made 68 arrests and seized 15 illegal firearms. Homicide suspects, drug traffickers, and more are being charged.” – Pam Bondi

🎯IMPACT: The increased law enforcement presence in Washington, D.C. appears to be improving public safety and cutting crime.

IN FULL

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that federal agents, working alongside the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), arrested 68 crime suspects on Saturday night, bringing the total to over 300 since President Donald J. Trump announced his crime crackdown on August 11. Meanwhile, the D.C. Police Union has released data showing massive declines in several crime categories.

Overall, police union data shows crime is down by eight percent—but the fall in carjackings, which have become particularly prevalent in the Democrat-dominated city, is far more dramatic, with an 83 percent decline. Robberies are also down by 46 percent, with a smaller but still significant 22 percent decline in violent crime generally.

Last week, President Trump federalized the MPD and mobilized National Guard units to the District of Columbia alongside personnel from federal law enforcement agencies as part of a 30-day initiative to curb violent crime in the American capital.

The National Guard troops and MPD are working alongside federal agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Additionally, the MPD, under federalization, has agreed to cooperate with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) when detaining illegal immigrants.

“Just last night, our federal and D.C. law enforcement partners made 68 arrests and seized 15 illegal firearms. Homicide suspects, drug traffickers, and more are being charged,” Bondi wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Late Friday, a federal court temporarily blocked the federalization of the D.C. police, but relented after the Department of Justice (DOJ) revised part of its directive to allow the city’s police chief to remain in place. President Trump has expressed a desire to work with the GOP-controlled Congress to extend his control over the capital city beyond the 30-day emergency authority.

Currently, about 800 National Guard troops are stationed in D.C., with an additional 700 expected to arrive from Ohio, South Carolina, and West Virginia this week.
