In April 2016, Mark Levin told his radio audience exactly where he stood. “I’m not voting for Donald Trump. Period… So, count me as never Trump,” the talk host said.
He had already endorsed Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, and had told Trump to “cut the crap” over his attacks on Cruz. He listed his grievances: Roger Stone and his “Stop the Steal” effort, the National Enquirer story about Cruz, and the “Michelle Fields incident,” wherein a Trump staffer, Corey Lewandowski, was caught on camera pulling then-Breitbart reporter Fields away from Trump.
The Republican base didn’t listen to Levin. Neither did the country. Five months after “Period,” Levin was back on air: “I’m gonna vote for Donald Trump… on Election Day,” he announced, adding, “I take no responsibility for the dumb things he says.” He called it a vote against Hillary Clinton. He still preferred Cruz.
