Maryanne Trump Barry, former President Donald Trump’s older sister, passed away on Monday at the age of 86, according to the New York City Police Department. Barry was a retired federal appellate judge, having stepped down in April 2019. Despite political disagreements, Donald Trump has historically referred to his sister as a “highly respected judge.”
In her legal career, Barry served as a federal prosecutor before receiving a nomination from then-president Ronald Reagan to the Federal District Court in New Jersey in 1983.
She was later appointed by then-President Bill Clinton to the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit in 1999. Barry ceased hearing cases shortly after Donald Trump was inaugurated as president in 2017.
