Chinese Communist Party Using ‘Emotion Recognition’ For Surveillance, Anti-Terrorism.

The Chinese Communist Party has been deploying “emotion recognition technology” as a surveillance tool to monitor human feelings.

The technology, which also. has been used by law enforcement, tracks facial muscle movements, vocal tone, and body movements, according to the state-run Global Times.

“Emotion recognition is definitely the direction of humanity’s future tech development,” Ma Qingguo, the head of the Academy of Neuroeconomics and Neuromanagement at state-run Ningbo University, told the outlet.

“The cutting-edge tool is increasingly being used in various fields including health, anti-terrorism, and urban security,” the New York Post reported.

In practice, the artificial intelligence system can even monitor passengers of a car driving through a busy intersection.

Chen Wei —the general manager of a company specializing in the technology — described how the tool can also predict dangerous behavior from prisoners, problem students in schools, and elderly people experiencing dementia in nursing homes.

“Ordinary people here in China aren’t happy about this technology but they have no choice. If the police say there have to be cameras in a community, people will just have to live with it. There’s always that demand and we’re here to fulfill it,” he added.

Already. his systems have been installed in roughly 300 prisons, detention centers, and jails around the country, totaling 60,000 cameras.
