Chinese Communist Party Strengthens Foreign Influence Ops Through ‘Overseas Students’

The Chinese Communist Party issued new guidelines for its United Front – the regime’s premier organization targeting Westerners to advance the “preferred policies” of the Chinese government – doubling down on its efforts.

The body, which the National Pulse recently revealed its efforts to co-opt American media outlets, elected officials, and think tanks, seeks to “co-opt and neutralize sources of potential opposition to the policies and authority of its ruling Chinese Communist Party” and “influence overseas Chinese communities, foreign governments, and other actors to take actions or adopt positions supportive of Beijing’s preferred policies” according to the U.S. government.

Its new guidelines, released January 5th, appear to double down on these efforts:

We must strengthen guidance of thought and promote the love for the motherland, the Communist Party and socialism with Chinese characteristics among overseas Chinese citizens and overseas students.

The document also noted work must be done to “contain Taiwan-independence forces and better safeguard China’s core interests among Chinese citizens overseas.”
