Chinese Communist Party Threatens To Take Americans Hostage If US Prosecutes Chinese Spies

The Chinese Communist Party has threatened to take Americans residing in China hostage if the Trump administration pursues charges against a host of U.S.-based Chinese researchers involved in espionage, visa fraud, military collaboration, and more.

According to reports from The Wall Street Journal, Chinese Communist Party officials have warned their counterparts in the U.S. government that Americans could face being detained in retaliation.

A form of “hostage diplomacy,” the threats come in response to at least five Chinese military-affiliated scholars visiting American institutions to conduct research under false pretenses.
