Illinois 16th District Congressman Adam Kinzinger has released a video calling for the forceable removal of President Trump from office before January 20th, using the 25th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

Rep. Kinzinger – first recruited to Congress by then-Congressman Mike Pence – said on Thursday morning: “It’s with a heavy heart I am calling for the sake of our Democracy that the 25th Amendment be invoked.”

UPDATE: Sen. Schumer has added his voice to the calls to remove the President from the White House today:

Original story follows:

Kinzinger said: “When pressed to move and denounce the violence he barely did so. While of course victimizing himself and seeming to give a wink and nod to those doing it. All indications are that the president has become unmoored not just from his duty or even his oath but from reality itself. It is for this reason that I call the VP and members of the cabinet to ensure the next few weeks are safe for the American people and that we have a sane captain of the ship.”

He released the following video statement:

The 25th Amendment states: “In case of the removal of the President from office or of his death or resignation, the Vice President shall become President.”

It adds: “Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.”

Kinzinger’s move would make his old friend, Mike Pence, the 46th President of the United States for a period of less than two weeks.
