The United Kingdom‘s population grew by more than three-quarters of a million people in the year leading up to June 2024, marking the second-largest annual increase since the late 1940s. According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), net immigration was the primary contributor, accounting for 98 percent of this growth.

Nigel Henretty from the ONS highlighted, “The UK population has increased each year since mid-1982. Net international migration continues to be the main driver of this growth, continuing the long-term trend seen since the turn of the century.”

In mid-2024, Britain’s population was estimated at 69.3 million, up from 68.5 million in mid-2023. The number of people immigrating to the country was estimated at 1,235,254, with 496,536 people emigrating, resulting in a net migration figure of 738,718. This was the largest factor in the overall population growth.

“The rate of population increase has been higher in recent years, and the rise seen in the year to mid-2024 represents the second largest annual increase in numerical terms in over 75 years,” Henretty said.

Although births outnumbered deaths slightly, contributing 16,239 to the population increase, the total number of births was the lowest in at least 42 years.

Reform Party leader Nigel Farage criticized Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer’s government, stating, “The Labour government are continuing the Boriswave and our lives are all getting poorer because of it. Only Reform will control our borders.”

The “Boriswave” refers to the unprecedented immigration surge engineered by former Prime Minister Boris Johnson following Brexit and the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, despite promising to reduce net immigration in his election platform.

The National Pulse reported on Thursday that immigration—especially among Muslims—likely accounts for a large part of a surge in belief in God(s) in the United Kingdom. August data from YouGov shows that 37 percent of Britons between the ages of 18 and 24 say they believe in God, a significant uptick from August 2021, when only 16 percent of the same demographic believed in God.

While some have interpreted the YouGov data to signal a Christian religious revival in the United Kingdom—some polling indeed shows a 56 percent increase in adult church attendance compared to 2018—a closer look at the data for demographic groups over the age of 25 shows modest declines in belief in God. When coupled with migration data, this suggests that the increase in faith is substantially driven by mass migration policies.

Others arrested included Ivis Orlando Maldonado-Cabrera, a 44-year-old Honduran with a history of robbery, and Jaime Lojano-Villa, a 33-year-old Ecuadorian with a DUI conviction and a final order of removal.

Earlier in September, ICE officers also arrested two violent sex offenders and a convicted murderer. On September 4, Edgar Rene Gonzalez-Gonzalez, a Guatemalan illegal alien convicted of sexual abuse in the sanctuary city of New York, was detained. That same day, ICE arrested Jeffrey Gervacio-Perez, a Mexican illegal alien convicted of rape in Goshen, New York. On September 3, Lao Sihathep, a convicted killer who had been ordered removed from the U.S. over 25 years ago, was also apprehended and now faces deportation to Laos.

ICE officials emphasized that their mission prioritizes public safety and national security threats. They stated, “Any individual illegally present in the United States who is encountered during an immigration enforcement operation may be taken into custody and processed for removal as stated by law. It comes down to one question: Is this person violating our nation’s immigration laws? If the answer is yes, we’re going to remove them.”

The revelation is especially egregious as some progressive political figures have justified DEI programs and employment as a means to lift up so-called “marginalized” ethnic minority Americans.

“This is outrageous. Some U.S. companies are using H-1B visas to staff their DEI offices,” Sen. Schmitt wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “I’ve reviewed numerous examples of hospitals, universities and other employers hiring foreign H-1B workers as DEI bureaucrats. I’m urging USCIS [U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services] to work with us to fix this.”

The Missouri Republican says his office has obtained and reviewed a number of H-1B visa requests filed by American employers to fill DEI roles. Schmitt notes, “For example, Yale New Haven Health filed Labor Condition Applications (LCA) for H-1B visas for the role of ‘Diversity and Inclusion Specialist’ in 2021.” Other academic institutions, according to the Senator, have filed similar visa requests for DEI positions, including Carnegie Mellon University and Dartmouth College.

However, the H-1B to DEI office pipeline isn’t just isolated to higher academia: “Examples range from large banks and law firms to universities, healthcare systems, and even municipal park districts,” Sen. Schmitt states. “Obviously, DEI positions are plainly non-technical and ideological in nature, and appear to fall outside the ‘specialty occupation’ intent of the H-1B statute.”

“More to the point, in light of everything we know about DEI, it’s alarming that American employers appear to be importing foreign workers to work in these roles—placing non-Americans in positions where they are tasked with policing the speech and thought of our own citizens,” Schmitt warns.

Following his office’s investigation, the Missouri Senator is requesting USCIS issue guidance “clarifying that positions relating to DEI… do not qualify as H-1B specialty occupations” and “provide my office with a full report and a briefing on approved H-1B petitions in DEI-tagged roles for FY2021–FY2024.” Additionally, Schmitt is asking USCIS to “conduct a focused review of approvals over the aforementioned time period to identify DEI-tagged cases and take appropriate corrective action.”

In 2024, former President Joe Biden’s DHS issued 400,000 such permits, with many recipients seeking H-1B visas for long-term employment in the U.S.

Grassley expressed concern for young Americans, particularly in Midwest states where job opportunities are dwindling. “The Federal Reserve recently found that ‘the unemployment rate of males ages 22 to 27 is roughly the same, whether or not they hold a degree.’ Recent STEM graduates face higher unemployment rates than the general population,” Grassley wrote. He also pointed out that Congress capped employment visas to prioritize American workers, a measure undermined by these programs.

A 24-year-old Venezuelan man, Anthony Emmanuel Labrador-Sierra, pleaded guilty on Monday to federal charges of lying on immigration forms and illegally purchasing a firearm after posing as a 16-year-old high school student in Ohio. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio, Labrador-Sierra used fraudulent documents to enroll at Perrysburg High School under the identity of a minor, attending alongside American children.

Federal prosecutors revealed that in both 2024 and 2025, Labrador-Sierra submitted false information to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) while applying for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Employment Authorization Documents. He also used fraudulent identification to illegally purchase a Taurus G3C 9mm semiautomatic pistol.

Perrysburg Schools reported that Labrador-Sierra was enrolled as an unaccompanied minor, in line with federal and state regulations that require schools to accept children without legal guardians. According to the school system, Labrador-Sierra “worked with immigration attorneys to file for Temporary Protective Status, which was granted by the U.S. Immigration Service,” adding, “This provided him with an Ohio driver’s license, a Social Security card, and a work permit.”

During his time at the school, he joined the junior varsity soccer and swim teams.

The scheme unraveled in May 2025 when local guardians, who believed they were helping a homeless teenager, discovered his real age and reported him to school officials. He was arrested about a month later during a routine traffic stop on Interstate 75. Authorities charged him with possession of a firearm by an alien, making false statements during the firearm purchase, and using fraudulent documents. He now faces up to 30 years in federal prison. Sentencing is scheduled for January 23, 2026.

The case highlights ongoing concerns about immigration enforcement and fraud involving unaccompanied minors.

On September 23, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Acting Director Todd Lyons discussed the deadly shooting at a Dallas ICE facility that left two dead earlier in the day, saying it comes amid a huge spike in anti-ICE attacks.

“I’ve never seen anything like this in my law enforcement career. I’ve never seen threats on law enforcement, specifically ICE, increased the way it is. You know, we’re up over 1,000 percent assaults on officers right now,” Lyons told CNN. He attributed the violence to escalating anti-law enforcement rhetoric, noting, “It just keeps getting worse and worse, and it has to stop.”

In August, the same facility faced a bomb threat, leading to an arrest. On July 4, an ambush at the Prairieland ICE facility near Dallas saw attackers in tactical gear use fireworks to lure officers into the open before opening fire on them in a premeditated assault. The ambush saw ten people charged with attempted murder after firing 20–30 rounds at officers, wounding at least one.

Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel has revealed that ammunition found near the shooter was scrawled with the words “Anti-ICE,” suggesting an ideological motive.

The Trump administration complains that Democrat officials, especially high-profile figures like California Governor Gavin Newsom and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, are normalizing violence towards immigration enforcement agents. Vice President J.D. Vance noted in a speech after the Dallas shooting that Newsom recently described ICE as “part of an authoritarian government,” adding: “You don’t have to agree with Donald Trump’s immigration policies. But if your political rhetoric encourages violence against our law enforcement, you can go straight to Hell, and you have no place in the political conversation.”

Walz, Kamala Harris’s failed 2024 running mate, has gone so far as to smear ICE as “Donald Trump’s modern-day Gestapo… scooping folks up off the streets,” in reference to Adolf Hitler’s Secret State Police, responsible for rounding up Jews, dissidents, and other perceived enemies of the state.
